What is happening in Justice is Might?
 

Hello Gossip’s. My life is passing everyday with Bad Moon Rising album but today I felt something different. Differece is might. So just want to know, what that squeak sound on outro of I’m Insane and intro of Justice is might. Like a broken tape cassette player sound or smth like that. I REALLY CANT FIGURE OUT! And is that a nice feedback at outro of Justice? One million kisses for person who knows what the devil orchestra, I mean Sonic Youth is doing.

I'd have to listen again but offhand there's some distorted mic feedback and what sounds like Thurston blowing into it before his spiel begins. At the end he's "playing" the knobs on Lee's amp while Lee repeats the guitar figure over and over.

I always assumed that interlude was some snippet of massive overloaded distortion of SOME electric device plugged into an amp, recorded while experimenting and practicing*, and then used in a tape loop - wasn't Thurston using those looping phone cassette's then?



Back then I used the looping phone tapes in conjunction with the Fostex x-15 4 track and you could do some cool stuff.
