I lost my Rock n' Roll!

I've been playin' guitar for maybe six years and for the first two years I knew nothing. I learned a few things, then I started doing a lot of experimental noise stuff. I lost my groove. With music theory knowledge it helps with the SICKNESS, but oh no, its gone!
Help me get my groove on!

only you can do that,

it was never a magic hub cap, the magic was inside you all along,

believe in yourself and anything is possible, follow your dreams and so on

so you're sayin you lost your groove because of music theory knowledge?

no, because of noise.
the music theory is whats helping me get back.

the same thing happened to me. i try to get it back by playing along to straight-ahead rock and roll, but sometimes i lose it and freak-out in the middle of a solo or something. it's all about restraint for me. if i can hold back from killing my guitar, then i can preserve my "rock"

pull out those old rock albums and jam, man.

I suggest you just continue to listen to a good mix of experimental and mainstream music and try to be inspired by both. It's easy to get lost in making ambient soundscapes or whatever but it's much more fun to juxtapose melodies and freakouts, in my opinion.

Make sure you don't become to wrapped up in theory and end up losing the ability to create anything but rehashed variations on scales... like every guitarist in local bands round here.
