Fuck if I know. First of all, the Minutemen were arguably even more "indie in its truest sense" (they jammed econo, baby!), although they didn't control all the means of production; they still had to deal with label bullcrap, small as SST was. But we could be splitting hairs there... "Signing to a major label in the late '80s as Sonic Youth" - well, what were they gonna sign as, Milli Vanilli? All I can think of is they signed to a major after The Replacements, Hüsker Dü, and R.E.M. How did that feel? Like a complete unknown, with no direction home, like a rolling stone? :confused: |
