Suggest me what to listen to!

here's how we play:

everyone suggest me something to listen to, preferrably a whole album. now, how do you know i have the album you suggested? well, here's the game part of the game, the first or most convincing suggestion that i actually have and can listen will win.

sooooo...go!

SynthethicalY 03.20.2007 07:16 PM

PIL

Everyneurotic 03.20.2007 07:21 PM

ok, you win; it's metal box time!!!

atari 2600 03.20.2007 07:57 PM

Good gravy, that's a good choice.

Go listen to Shake It Up (1981) next. I know you have it.

Love the experimental thread hee hee.

Souvlaki-Slowdive!!

go!! listen!! now!!

atari 2600 03.20.2007 08:03 PM

bah! take out Eno/Fripp - Evening Star! One of my absolute favorites!

--
the first two the Cars albums (mind-blowingly) are even better, yeah, but i'm in love with this fourth one at the moment. It must be played loud!

...man, what guitarist (with both vast creative & technical talent) is more underrated than Elliot Easton?

Everyneurotic 03.20.2007 08:08 PM

yes, the cars ruled!!! unfortunately, i only have heatbeat city, i should have a list of albums i can get at the store next time i'm there...

...might download it latter to listen to it, you really tempted me, atari!!!

ps: good call also on souvlaki too, haven't heard it in a while.

atari 2600 03.20.2007 08:12 PM

should I make this a group contribution (I've been slack for awhile now) to make it easier?

I do love Heartbeat City, but I'd have to rank it fourth or so (too little Easton)...that's how amazingly strong this band's catalogue is.

Bollocks_to_Pop 03.20.2007 08:55 PM

Anything of Lou Reed's before the horrible Sally Can't Dance.

whatever you feel like, although those are records to be heard.

hbc i like alright, most of the songs are really strong, what turns me a bit off is the production, it really sounds sterile and crappy; not unlike many records of the eighties where they tried digital shit to make them sound futuristic. case in point: the title track, good song but the way the harmonies are recorded and mix together is very of putting.

i really don't know why devo and the b52s are so recognized today and yet the cars have not enjoyed more of a revival.

hotbutterknives 03.20.2007 09:54 PM

thinking fellers union local 282 - mother of all saints

Todd Rundgren tours with them (minus Ric (wants no part of it) & Ben (R.I.P.)) now as The New Cars...I've never heard one single bit of their music or covers though.

Everyneurotic 03.20.2007 10:54 PM

yeah, i saw their cd the other day.

still, on a cultural level...besides fountains of wayne's stacy's mom.
