Julian Casablancas

Anybody check out his solo album yet? Not bad, liking it more and more. Lotsa keyboards and even a shredding classical Yngiwie Malmsteen type guitar lead! It's not unlike Albert's in that it is quite varied in song styles. Nice to have something to continue holding me over till the new Strokes.

Here's what the NME thinks of his album.

Haha, yeah Ive heard it. I was wondering when Julian Casablancas turned into CHER!

The album has taken me completely by surprise... I think it is pure genius.

amerikangod 11.11.2009 02:25 AM

You guys do realize you're talking about the 'dude' from the Strokes, right?

Trasher02 11.11.2009 07:45 AM

Hated it at first, but it's kinda growing on me. I was quite suprised the first time I heard it you know, I thought it was gonna be some lame strokes-like album but I didn't expect this at all.

ricechex 11.11.2009 11:28 AM

Oh yeah, I forgot the Strokes are a bit uncool on here.

Derek 11.11.2009 11:34 AM

I don't think they are uncool necessarily, I've just always found them to be boring drivel typical of the NME game. A few good songs but not any substance or longevity (though they have been around for a while surprisingly).

EVOLghost 11.11.2009 12:02 PM

I dl'd it. Haven't lisened to it yet.

loubarret 11.11.2009 01:17 PM

Strokes were like this ok band everyone seemed to love at once and hailed in as the new saviors of rock. They aren't and they fell of that hero status.

ricechex 11.11.2009 01:36 PM

Yeah, i think the meteoric rise overnight made people skeptical, made them feel it was processed and pasteurized like a flyboy boyband. But there's not a bad song on the first two records and that's saying a damn lot these days.

loubarret 11.11.2009 01:43 PM

New york cops was lucky on it here, I love that song.

automatic bzooty 11.11.2009 05:03 PM

i've had a minor resurgence of strokes nostalgia lately... but i haven't bothered with this album. eh.

he's kind of a hottie.

Trasher02 11.11.2009 05:59 PM

Don't get me wrong. I think that "Is This It" is an amazing album (still listen to it frequently) but everything they made afterwards just sounds like they're trying to copy themselves.

hevusa 11.11.2009 06:22 PM

He is the strokes...
not a bad album. good production.

ricechex 11.11.2009 09:14 PM

No way, Albert's 2 albums are strong too.

really? not in my opinion.

ricechex 11.11.2009 09:23 PM

In my opinion they're solid. I think both Albert and Julian records sound like they came from the Strokes, but more varied.

No it's not. Not at all, really. It's not like music today is any worse than it was at any other time in history.

Nah, at least regarding more radio-ish rock. Hell, the 80's had more original better rock by a mile than today. There's always some cool stuff underground wise, but guitar bands are a little weak these days bc it's harder to be original.
