See our new issue of Bombay Gin for two of Thurston’s poems and our (highly-condensed) interview.

Cool article. Thanks for sharing.

Now i'm off to see Henry Rollins. Should be sweet.

Fan var det bra? Tänkte själv dra dit men glömde köpa biljett typ.

Dude McDude 02.06.2012 09:57 AM

lesson #1:
if you write an article about an artist you're fascinated by, don't write in the first paragraphs that you did your preparations by downloading all his records

Dude McDude 02.06.2012 03:51 PM

I'd wager the artist in question isn't primarily interested in getting paid. Or are you refering to the risk of being busted by copyright infringement law suit henchmen?

And, why are you people focusing on petty stuff instead of the fact that she participated and wrote about something really cool?

_tunic_ 02.06.2012 05:36 PM

if you respect the artist, you buy his shit. Literally even. Some of us would actually do it, if they could. And you would want that shit in the best quality available, not in crappy lossy crap.
That's the deal.

(end of discussion, to avoid drifting off topic)

I´m the one who like to buy records instead of downloading. And I buy each of vinyl my favourites release. But on the other hand, I can understand there are people who even haven´t ever seen vinyl. And who like to have music in non-material form. When I was young, there even were any computers. And I think you can also pay your downloadings if you want...
About the topic, kind of interesting article.

I see your point, and agree. Paying the artist is a way to show gratitude and respect.

It's just that there was so much in what this girl wrote that makes it hard to say she is disrespectful, even despite the fact that she downloaded the music. If this is a question of paying respect where it's due, i'd say she did that anyway.

RanaldoNecro 02.07.2012 09:52 AM

who said she downloaded illegally? she could of got it off any number of legal sites.
