Sev, trolling is when you post something on the internet, usually in somekind of discussion where your intentions aren't to have any kind of serious discussion or accept any feedback or input from other posters. Frequently such posts are excessively inflammatory

Doesn't sound like he's as closed to finished as he'd like is to believe.

In a recent tweet he said he was finishing up his next album and next compilation. Think there's a Cruel Summer II in the works? If there is, and it's half as good as the first one, I'm all in baby.

Seriously though, if he's still writing bars, I doubt we're going to see a new album in the next month. Didn't he say he wrapped it back in November of 2014?

Still hopeful though.

Well damn, I still need to read the lyrics, but perhaps Kanye just "washed" Kendrick??? Wow.

Amazing collab. Was well worth the wait.

louder 01.18.2016 07:31 AM

2nd listen. This is one of Kanye's best verses ever.. jesus.

Severian 01.18.2016 10:13 AM

hah! I woke up late this morning becaue I was up damn late last night working on some stories. So this was the first things heard after my alarm. Seriously, I woke up, went to Soundcloud and blasted this beast.

It's not even really up for discussion is it louder? This is just hot as hell, and that's a fucking fact.

Kendrick kills. Kendrick pretty much always kills, but he's never done it on a Ye track before.

And Kanye... damn. Personally I'm way over the whole "he's not a great rapper" thing. Because even though he may not have started out that way, I genuinely think he's been a good rapper all along, and an incredible emcee since Late Registration. But I've noticed that he's been honing his skills a bit since Yeezus. "All Day" is a super low quality cut, and I truly hope we get a proper version of it soon, but on that track he pulled some vocal shit that he'd never really done before. He went harder/faster/stronger, and the result was genuinely awesome.

But this? This is Kanye hitting a new level with his voice, his delivery, his breath control and his speed. Yes, I think Kanye did just step on Kendrick. Verse was unbelievable.

Severian 01.19.2016 12:03 PM

Swish is dropping on February 11th.

It's starting to look like that's actually going to be the album's title too. Yeesh! Oh well, the tracks are proving to be hot as hell.

I know nothing about that.
Last I heard Pusha was being questioned about it, asked if another G.O.O.D. Music "sampler" was in the label's future. He said he was definitely into it.

What's funny is that Cruel Summer really isn't a sampler. It features tons of non-GOOD Music artists, and it ultimately flows more or less like a Kanye West album. Which is awesome, certainly. But now that's what I want and expect from Cruel Summer II (or Cruel Winter?). I don't want it to be a compilation. I want it to be a "Kanye & Friends" joint that's batshit crazy and goes hard as hell.

To me, Cruel Summer is like the sister album to Watch the Throne. The silver to WTT's gold. A sequel would have to ride the same wave for it to work. If he wants to drop a proper GOOD sampler, he's gonna need to rebrand it and start something new.

noisereductions 01.19.2016 04:27 PM

The G.O.O.D. Music album Cruel Summer featured most of Kanye West's G.O.O.D. roster, with one noteworthy exception: recent signee Q-Tip. MTV News asked Tip about his absence on the album at last night's BET Hip-Hop Awards. "I know, I know, I'm sorry about that but I have to let the cat out of the bag. Kanye's probably gonna get...," he said, pausing to call Pusha-T over. "If there's a Cruel Summer, then there's got to be a Cruel Winter, right?"

http://pitchfork.com/news/48031-q-ti...-cruel-summer/

Severian 01.19.2016 05:11 PM

Ok, sure... But what I'm saying is that R. Kelly, 2 Chainz, Ghostface Killah and Raekwon, for example, aren't G.O.O.D. artists, but were featured prominently on the album. Also, where was Mr. Hudson?

Honestly though, it's just a Kanye & company album to me. It has about as many co-contributors as MBDTF, knowmean?

Severian 01.19.2016 05:25 PM

Plus, that Pitchfork article is four years old.

I swear, I just read about Pusha T commenting on the sequel. I forget where, but "Cruel Winter" wasn't mentioned. That would be a cool title, though, and I'd love to have that drop in the same year and season as (ugh) "SWISH" ...

I agree w/ that part. It's a Kanye album to me.

Severian 01.19.2016 11:16 PM

Swish... Swish... Swish...

I'm trying to say/type it so much that it stops sounding stupid, which I eventually worked for me with Yeezus.

I still think "Black American Psycho" would have been an EPIC and extremely apt title, considering how aggressive and panic-filled that album was. But Yeezus works... it definitely has a singular feel to it. Like, any number of rappers could name an album Black American Psycho, but who else could call an album Fucking Yeezus?

It's kind of a shame that such an awesome run of album titles is being ended with "Swish."

Severian 01.19.2016 11:56 PM

By the way, I've always really liked this weirdass 1940's-Batman-cowl-goes-biblical one as far as alt covers for Yeezus go. It just creeps me out and I love it.

I also did this minimal (and somehow official) cartoon art that was featured on the iTunes version of the album. This totally could have worked on a har copy release, and would have been great for the vinyl.

Then there's this one, obviously done by someone Fucking around with a geometric photo app. It definitely needs some workshopping, but it's a cool idea.

REALLY hoping he doesn't just use the Al Day art from the abandoned "So Help Me God" as the album cover this time around. But whatever happens, my body is in a perpetual state of low frequency vibration in anticipation for this album.

As I said time and time again, with increasing frustration, as 2014 and 2015 slogged on by, I have been so excited for this release that almost everything else (except for Syro of course), felt like little more than a consolation prize. I am so fucking excited, I feel like I'm aging in reverse, back to my first Christmas.

Severian 01.20.2016 12:22 AM

This is on his Soundcloud. Possible Swish cover art?

Severian 01.20.2016 01:21 AM

Did anyone know that Gravediggaz released a new album on Christmas?
Gave it a very brief preview, and it sounded like it had some decent moments.

Oh, fuck that man, sorry- that was just Spotify being Spotify. While thumbing through the "new releases" I saw the name Gravediggaz on my phone. I held my finger on the album and and all these boxes popped up, containing tracks for quick preview. I moved my thumb around and played literally a couple seconds of a couple tracks and didn't realize until later that it was just Nightmare in A Minor.

I do not own that album and I'm not familiar with it so that didn't help, but Spotify was listing it as a 2015 release. Must have been given a reissue or something?

Anyway, I'm a dumbshit.

noisereductions 01.20.2016 01:42 PM

I hate when Spotify puts current year for old stuff. Ugh.

I think it's the "vinyl craze." Hey Spotify, just cuz an album that has been in print on CD for 20 years is now on vinyl again does not mean it is a new release.

Also, unrelated: In the grand scheme of things I think "Yeezus" is a much dumber title than "Swish." :)

Severian 01.20.2016 08:04 PM

Yeezus no longer sounds dumb to me, but that's probably because it's part of the cultural lexicon now. Actually sounds kinda badass.

Swish has been a stupid thing to say for eons, and I doubt naming an album "Swish" is going to do a lot for that. Unless it's an absurdly successful album, but I kind of think Kanye is done with massive commercial successes.

It'll go to #1 with somewhere around 100k copies sold, and it'll end up with a platinum certification within a few months. That's my guess anyway. Now, if he kept his music the fuck off the internet/streaming services, he'd probably be in Taylor Swift/Adele territory. But he's not that guy.

noisereductions 01.20.2016 09:40 PM

T-Swift bums me out tho. I wanna listen to her on Spotify but I can't. :(

Well, she's on Apple Music, which offers most of the same services as Spotify and is actually improving as least as quickly as Spotify is plateauing.

They have a three-month free trial. Check it out.

Or buy a Taylor Swift album?
Or download a Taylor Swift album?

I find Apple fascinating. Yet I hate their products. My wife has an iPhone, but I'm strictly Android. We have a Spotify 'family acct' so we each have our own accts, with our playlists, etc and it's $15/mo. Good deal. Can't say I'd be tempted to switch to go over to a service provided by a company I don't like giving my $ to.

If Amazon actually got their library together, then the Prime streaming would be perfect for us. We love Prime.

Heck, I'd even prob go w/ Google Play's streaming service over Apple - again, if their library was up to par.

Tidal... is that even still a thing that exists?

I can and do buy T-Swift albums... but that doesn't help me integrate them into my Spotify playlists. Y'know?

I like listening to all my new releases from the year on shuffle. But she can't be part of that. She has to exist outside of the rest. It's just an annoyance to me.

Severian 01.21.2016 11:44 AM

Hmm. I actually subscribe to both Spotify premium and Apple Music (yeah... I know). Mostly because I haven't gotten around to canceling Spotify yet.

I'm on my third iPhone at this point, my second MacBook Pro (brand new, that one), and I also have an iPad and two 160 GB iPod Classic, so that's where most of my music ends up. It's better than streaming for me because I don't have to worry about stupid shit like data usage.

I am still a CD and vinyl buyer. I don't think I'll ever fully give in to streaming. I like being able to put all of my most played music in one place. And, you know, own it.

I have a friend who has that "Alexa" thing... Amazon's $100 talking wifi speaker that plays shit from your prime library. They seem to like it ok, but I think it's a pretty terrible product.

Yeah man, Death Grips is actually pretty goddamn solid. About ˝ the time, anyway. That's a pretty early song, so maybe start with Ex-Millitary? You might enjoy The Money Store too... Lord knows the rest of the world did. Government Plates got a lot of love in the café too.

It's from their first project "Exmilitary", it's a good one. The Money Store and Government Plates are good as well.
