spin loved that album, they put it in their 90 albums of the 90's list and said it was a link between john fahey and wilco, or something to thast effect.

atsonicpark 07.30.2008 10:57 PM

hahaha.

The line between John Fahey and Wilco is Jim O'Rourke.

Everyneurotic 07.30.2008 11:34 PM

of course it was a moronic thing to say, but it's spin afterall.

atsonicpark 07.30.2008 11:43 PM

I think a thousand leaves is like a more mature version of bad moon rising.

You know, Mark Prindle said something to that effect in his review for it, but I just don't hear it at all. They couldn't sound more opposite to my ears.

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 12:02 AM

they just both sound very autumny to me.

atsonicpark 07.31.2008 12:03 AM

"hoarfrost" and "intro" for example.. both have very cold distant but lovely chiming notes.. haha. I dunno. I just get a similiar somewhat dark detached vibe from both albums.

al shabbray 07.31.2008 03:14 AM

still one of my favourites. murray street on top, after that 1kleaves, DDN, NYG&F, Sister are constantly fighting agaist each other

SonicBebs 07.31.2008 04:18 AM

"i'll start a thread and talk about 1000 Leaves"
cause its fucking awsome

greedrex 07.31.2008 04:32 AM

Hmm, interesting. I always related Bad Moon Rising and NYC Ghosts & Flowers, because they both have that nocturnal atmosphere... but I also always related NYC Ghosts & Flowers and A Thousand Leaves, so I guess you may be right

ATL and NYCGAF got it on and had baby Murray St and Baby Nurse. Then ATL played away and ended up with RR

silly ATL

noisereductions 07.31.2008 07:07 AM

I wasn't aware that they stopped making amazing records.

My only problem with ATL is the vocals. I've never felt they sit quite right in the mix. But the songs are great.

whorefrost 08.02.2008 07:24 PM

I genuinely think this may be thee quintessential SY record. first one I ever got (Christimas 98, present from my aunt)
have since acquired the luscious double wax edition.

jennthebenn 08.02.2008 08:02 PM

fucking hell, i should be able to give whorefrost rep whenever i damn well
please.

A Thousand Leaves=impeccable

ahh very good observation, I see the connection.

I still don't enjoy ATL though hah. Well, it's alright, I'm just not into the bulk of the tracks.

diskaholic-anonymous 08.03.2008 04:21 AM

i love the delicate balance between the melodic noise and the
"fragile" structure of their songs.

PAULYBEE2656 08.03.2008 05:57 AM

its a damn fine record... love it.

greedrex 08.03.2008 06:51 AM

i third the autumny vibe

absolutely
