Is this commercial triumph or artistic triumph?

Derek 04.10.2009 12:34 PM

The Offspring's masterpiece is the newest one? I beg to differ.

Toilet & Bowels 04.10.2009 12:40 PM

sonic youth formed in 1981
the beatles formed in 1960
half of the bands you listed never recorded a masterpiece anyway.

if they have any in your opinion

Maybe I'm alone here, but in my opinion the only people that consider DAYDREAM to be SY's "masterpiece" is Critics. I think it's a good album, with a lot of great songs. But there's a lot of other SY albums I reach for before DAYDREAM myself.

wait, you just said that linkin park recorded a masterpiece?

afterthefact 04.10.2009 01:02 PM

The Offspring started off as a pretty decent punk band, energetic if nothing else. They managed to get worse each time they released an album.

Haha, I missed that the first time through. I guess over the years I have trained my brain not to process the name Linkin Park as actual words. I just see rainbows and ponies in its place now, and my life is better for it.

Exactly.

The Offspring got SOOO Bad around the turn of the century that it actually made their old decent punk stuff sound bad too.

noisereductions 04.10.2009 01:21 PM

^it is a genuine masterpiece, though. Yes.

noisereductions 04.10.2009 01:40 PM

you did delete it! yeah.

demonrail666 04.10.2009 01:47 PM

I have a plan! Delete your one referring to mine, then I'll do mine again after deleting the other one, then I'll delete this post so you can post one beneath the one I'm about to post and it'll be like nothing ever happened. Genius! It'll be like Watergate.

It seems too obvious to mention in polite company, but The Beach Boys' Pet Sounds (1966) which makes it 4 years for them.

MellySingsDoom 04.10.2009 02:09 PM

Miles Davis (1950???) - Kind Of Blue (1958)

The Offspring are such talentless hacks now its unbelievable. They might hold the title of 'worst string of singles since 2000 by any band'. And all their new songs are just 'woo-oh-ohh-ohh' pennywise shitpunk.

Well maybe it's because I grew up on Conspiracy of One and I haven't really listened to Splinter since I was 11 but I liked those albums, even the singles.

That last album was shockingly bad though but again... I'm not 11 anymore.
