Would that be for play actors playing smokers and the likes or also for bands who are too cool not to smoke on stage?

In holland the new minister for health has also sped up the smoking ban. Originally bars and the likes were given until 2011 to introduce the smoking ban but now it seems that it's already going to happen in july 2008. So after then it's no more smoking in bars, restaurants, festival tents(?), football stadiums with closed roofs(?) and even coffeeshops... although the latter will probably come up with some isolated rooms where you can smoke your marijuana but won't get served.

Prisstina 07.02.2007 05:13 PM

ha. i'm all for the smoking ban, really.

i despise cigarettes. they smell to the high heavens and make my eyes itch and clothes stink. i don't like the idea of risking lung disease from just going out for dinner.

smoke all you want at home but pleeeeeease don't make nonsmokers put up with it.

p.s.- don't care what y'all british folk do but pass this shit in the u.s.

demonrail666 07.02.2007 05:36 PM

Going to a gig is gonna be unbearable. Waiting between bands. Fuck knows how I'll cope at all.

Which maybe isn't such a bad thing anyway.

But Shellac can definitely go fuck themselves with their 90 minute no-break sets.

Savage Clone 07.02.2007 05:48 PM

I missed a lot of support bands and encores because I couldn't stand the cloying, eye-watering, non-ventilated rooms I was standing in for upwards of four hours in the past.

demonrail666 07.02.2007 05:53 PM

I have to say, when it comes to gigs I'm in favour of a smoking ban - even though it's a pain in the bum for me. Gig goers will never have the choice that drinkers have. The idea of a smoking venue and a non-smoking venue would only work if bands played both - which would never happen.

Pubs are a different issue. I still don't see why, so long as a pub advertises itself as a smoking establishment, they can't continue.

I'll just have to get over it though, I suppose. I'm standing in the way of progress.

Pookie 07.02.2007 05:58 PM

It's mainly for employees. You should be able to work anywhere (including pubs) without having to breath in other people's smoke.

And smoking is just a bad habit. Just stop doing it and you'll be fine.

Toilet & Bowels 07.02.2007 09:25 PM

yeah, smoking isn't even that good, the down sides massively outweigh the one upside, i've been smoking on and off for 11 years, i'm glad the ban is here. people who complain about it are just spoiled brats.

A PINT IS BETTER WITH A FAG. SMOKING MAKES YOU COOL AND HARD AND A BETTER PERSON.

Quite what is wrong with this world I don't know, and I'm not going to find out, because I do my best thinking with a tab and some booze in a booze-hole. So, thanks government, I was going to save the world, but now I'm just going to sulk in the corner. Bastards.

your cursing is definitly English.

That was my point really

And the people saying my comment is the single most idiotic thing on the board are clearly taking my posts too seriously. I neither believe smoking is cool or part of the 'british dream'. You cant seriously think I would say something like that straight-faced. Lighten up.

Cotton Casino is credited as smoking cigarettes on their hour-long version of 'Pink Lady Lemonade'.

simple solution to those pissed off by the ban: stop smoking, then the ban won't apply to you. Plus, you'll have lots of extra money to spend.

I have to breathe traffic fumes, so traffic should be banned.

I'm against the loss of liberty - we've been dealing with this in NYC for several years now. If they can get away with banning smokes in bars, they can get away with requiring a total surveillance city - which is what they are doing. I honestly don't miss not smelling like smoke after coming home from a gig. But now the pols are trying to ban smoking in autos, in parks, on streets, and even in your home. Its just about making a nice healthy crop of meat for the machines.

There's a few bars that smell like utter shite now. Not all of them. I can't understand how these non-smoking cunts can abide it, it's fucking awful. I shouldn't, by rights, have any olfactory senses any more, let alone having them affronted by the new stench of food and sweat.

jon boy 07.27.2007 01:07 PM

its true that place snoe do smell of sweat and human bodies more. away with you smoking ban away with you.
