I've still only heard the track from the Matador loss leaders comp! Very excited to finally sit down and spin this...

Walked in to the record store by school yesterday, they said it was on backorder. dammit!

Review from Drowned In Sound. I like the SY/Beatles comparisons made here.

Are you in the US or Europe? All copies in North America should have download coupons. If you don't see it at first I'd check to see if it is stuck in the gatefold crease, that happens sometimes. If not then e-mail me at dave at matadordirect dot com and we can get you hooked up with a code.

I'm in the UK and ordered it from amazon.co.uk. I guessed it was a US / Europe thing as is often the case....

I'd be happy if someone after listening will write an objective opinion. Not fan's praise.

Anyway here's Pitchofork's review, with which I kinda agree: http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/...and-the-tides/

The thing about that website is that if, for instance, "Xtina" was the only Lee track on a new Sonic Youth album, they'd say it was the stand-out and give the album an 8.2. Pitchfork is a yeast infection. But I have to say I'm surprised they aren't praising the album.

As for Lee vs. Thurston, I think Thurston's album would have been better if it had been more electric, but as of now I prefer Tide.

I really hear 1990 era REM at one point during the first song. reminds of "LOW"

Just got the demos from UK itunes - I was expecting solo versions, stripped down, just Lee and guitar but they are band versions, presumably with Lee on multi-tracked guitars and Steve on drums. Please tell me there is a way of getting the other demos as these are excellent!

Can't wait til I get home, only 1 hour left! :D

EDIT: (a few hours later)
I love it! Super great record, Lee you rule!

i have a feeling I will spin this one a lot these coming weeks.
I still havent ordered the new Disappears LP : o

Severian 03.22.2012 06:54 PM

I am liking it more with every listen, but there is no excuse for that "alone out in the middle of the world"/ "just some other girl"line. The rest is just great and sounds smazhing on vinyl. I can already tell it will define my summer.

But am I the only one who feels a little sad listening to it? Sometimes it's like the guitars are just crying out for Thurston. The character of the album is so reminiscent of SY. At least Demolished Thoughts maintained some sonic distance.

Favorite tracks change every time through, but I think xtina as I knew her will I be the fan favorite in general.

E. Noisefield 03.22.2012 07:04 PM

I am very glad that we got the vinyl. But gosh, I'm still kinda back and forth about the album itself. :( I was really counting on being blown away, but it's not quite doing it... I actually feel kind of guilty.
