Thurston playing Wednesday with MV+EE

Thurston will be doing (new) songs on Wednesday in support of MV+EE at the Iron Horse in Northampton, MA.

From the local gazette:

Rustic hippie revival
Long-time residents may fondly recall the days when hippies, gurus, freaks and communards freely roamed the New England woods, straying now and then into residential areas along with deer and bears. Well, the news is they're back. Not the originals, of course, but in many cases their sons and daughters; and as in times of old, the basic mode of their expression is music. The "freak folk" movement, as it is called, recently gained sufficient attention to warrant a lengthy article in The New York Times, where Jay Babcock, editor of Arthur, a journal that is the leading voice of neo-hippieism, described it as consisting of "people basically fleeing in horror from the homogenizing, materialistic, bottom-line corporate monoculture that's overtaking America." More of a mind-set than a genre, freak folk music ranges from whimsical acoustic murmurings to ferocious electric psychedelia. Its practitioners generally turn out their own homespun CDs, showing little interest in music industry trappings.
Regionally, you'll find the movement embodied in MV & EE and the Bummer Road, an enclave consisting of Matt Valentine, Erika Elder "and a revolving auxiliary of men, women, dogs and stars" who have been making strange rural music for some years now in the hinterlands of Vermont. Most of MV & EE & TBR's work has been self-produced but their latest, "Green Blues," has just been proudly shepherded into existence by the Easthampton-based indie label Ecstatic Peace. Ecstatic Peace's Thurston Moore -a virtuoso guitarist in addition to record producer, who is set to appear with MV & EE for a CD-release concert Wednesday night at the Iron Horse - states that "'Green Blues' may be the ultimate and most genuine artifact of what the media has proffered as 'freak folk,' as it not only makes manifest all that is desirous of said scene but, in true nature, goes well beyond any known parameters as such."
