Let's say I say:

Sleater-Kinney
The Slits
Patti Smith
The Breeders
The Raincoats
X-Ray Spex
PJ Harvey
Bikini Kill
Elastica
Deerhoof
OOIOO
Skunk Anansie
Yeah Yeah Yeahs
L7

(as well as The Pixies, The Vaselines)

You would then happily recommend:

I'd recommend Ut, Lilliput/ Kleenex, the Shaggs and anything on Chicks on Speed records. I'd further mention Diamanda Galas and tempt you with a smattering of Patty Walters. If you're feeling 80 nostalgia tastic I'd throw in the Primitives, for whom I have a soft spot, and the Cocteau Twins, who everyone should be listening to.

I'm listening to some percussion tape I made. It's badly recorded.

I certainly wouldn't bother with Elastica - One-trick ponies. Granted it's a good enough trick, but it wears thin after a while.

porkmarras 10.13.2006 09:58 AM

After the first album, basically. There is one track on their second album called 'My Sex' that is cool.

The first album's still a good 'un. Also, Justine Jewish Surname gave MIA her first beatbox, apparently. Ergo, eternal kudos.

porkmarras 10.13.2006 10:03 AM

MIA also designed the cover of the second Elastica album.

gmku 10.13.2006 10:05 AM

Hmm, Sleater-Kinney's pretty good, in my opinion. Especially One Beat, and maybe also Dig Me Out.

And C., you're nixing the Pixies and the Vaselines??! What's up wich you?

Cantankerous 10.13.2006 10:06 AM

i don't know what it is. i think it's her voice. i really can't stand her voice.

Have to admit, yeah, first time I heard them, the voice hit me wrong. But on subsequent listens, it seemed to fit.

Savage Clone 10.13.2006 10:11 AM

On subsequent listens I just found new levels of white-hot anger that this was the music on the radio while i was trying to drive.

Cantankerous 10.13.2006 10:13 AM

dylan is nice for driving.

Savage Clone 10.13.2006 10:14 AM

....off a cliff.

Except for Hollis Brown and Masters Of War, aka the only two Dylan songs I find listenable.

Cantankerous 10.13.2006 10:30 AM

based upon evidence i've collected, you're insane.
