KoRn, Life Is Peachy.

yeah I went there, so? what are you going to do about? you all know you bumped this album in the 90s. its too bad KoRn didn't take Marsellus Wallace's advice and instead believed they would age like wine.... but didn't.

Rob Instigator 02.27.2008 03:31 PM

i don;t know anything about "korn"

Everyneurotic 02.27.2008 03:33 PM

this record is very very good. the worst song in it is the most well known one and frnakly, a throwaway in the big scheme of things.

and the production is one of the best i've ever heard, like i said in another thread, it's like steven stapleton and dj muggs behind the board.

indeed. so I saw Head's baptism in people magazine while taking a shit at a friend's house, and I was like, shit, I recognize that monstrous mascada, that is fucking head!

Everyneurotic 02.27.2008 03:46 PM

hahahahaha, yeah, i saw those pics too, he's the father of 300 children or something now.

can't say the other guys are better though, just not so jesus-posing.

atsonicpark 02.27.2008 03:55 PM

I've frequently made references to this record on here and have posted about my love for it many a time. So, I don't know if I have anything left to say. The production is phenomenal, and songs like Chi, Ass Itch, Kill You, Mr. Rogers, and the AMAZING Good God are phenomenal. The first album was even dirtier and had their best songs overall (see Predictable) but this is the one I put on when I feel like listening to KoRn. Follow the Leader and Issues both had some good songs on it, Follow obviously having a bit too much rap and special guests, but Issues seemed to be moving in a nice direction, though it also had too much filler/interludes. Everything after that is devoid of even a single gem. Still a great band, and it's worth noting that Munky and Head are cited by anyone who is serious about music as revolutionary guitar players. They may not be technically "great", but some of the sounds they use are amazing... imagine, a "metal" band with very very few stereotypical metal riffs. A.D.I.D.A.S. for example has one of the UGLIEST riffs in history... anyway.. great record. The drummer is god.

this is true. It is actually sad to hear them still try without head, cuz it is entirely missing his parts. its like, they didn't even try to replace him. no it is just munky's chords, without head's riffs. terrible. these cats contributions are significant, though they went out in bad form, had they retired before 2000, they would have went out musically on top, however they opted for socially and economically, and so continue to surf the wave of commercialism where anyone who sold platinum can continue to sell out a venue. just check out the god-awful lineups at tickemaster's website to see that the good dont die young at all, in fact they age terribly into the future. god bless sonic youth for actually progressing rather then digressing into oblivion.

i thought they were horrible in the 90's and i still think they are horrible.

pbradley 02.27.2008 04:54 PM

I was more into Rage Against the Machine around that time. Back when I was an atheist and a self-proclaimed Communist or whatever.

aside from athiesm and communism [to failing underdog ideologies] you were much smarter for supporting rage then koRn. it remains true, that you can kill a revolutionary but you cant kill the revolution.

I've never understood enthusiasm for pot. This isn't to say I hate it. I just don't understand why some people get so involved with repping that they smoke.

uhler 02.27.2008 05:17 PM

who would've thought that a thread about korn would slowly turn into a pot thread. i guess i started that though. the first thing i think of when i think of korn (aside from that they are one of the worst bands i have heard) is kids smoking weed and meth to their records.

pbradley 02.27.2008 05:18 PM

I think of hunched over guys and flailing dreads. Also the asshole playing his bass upright. Fuck that guy.

i'm not surprised in the least bit, but i'm surprised you posted it in the non sonics section. did you smoke some cheeba before you posted this thread and put it in the wrong section?

actually no, it is a fastday in the Orthodox church so no smoking for me until at least sundown... but give me some credit, it may have not been in the non-sonic sounds section, but technically it is accurately in the non-sonics section...

Fasting

Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christians do not eat meat and diary products (i.e. egg, butter, milk, and cheese) on fasting days. According to the Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church belief, the faithful must abstain from eating meat and diary products to attain forgiveness of sins committed during the year, and undergo a rigorous schedule of prayers and atonement. However, the sick, travellers and the weak may be exempt from or reduce the fasting periods but if they want to observe the fasting, they can fast the whole or part of the fasting periods. As for those who observe the fasting periods, they will continue to do this through out their life or as long as they are able to do without restrictions.
Church services are held daily in all Orthodox Tewahedo Churches from morning to 3 PM (9 o'clock in the afternoon Ethiopian time). Only one meal is allowed during the fasting days and the fist meal is taken after 3 PM (9 o'clock in the afternoon Ethiopian time), except Saturdays and Sundays, where a meal is allowed after the morning service.
The Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christian fasting periods are:
  • all Wednesdays and Fridays except the 50 days between Easter and Pentecost.
  • Tsome Neviyat (the fast of the Prophets known as Advent): 43 days fasting before Christmas which starts from 15 November to 28 December Ethiopian Calendar.
  • Tsome Gahad (The Vigils): one day fasting which takes place on Christmas eve i.e. 28 December Ethiopian calendar and the day preceeding before Epiphany i.e. 10 January Ethiopian Calendar.
  • Tsome Nenewe (the fast of Nineveh): 3 days fasting which starts on the Monday proceeding before Abye Tsome (Lent).
  • Abye Tsome or Hudade (Lent): 55 days Fasting before Easter which is divided in to the following three categories:
    • Tsome Hirkan: 8 days fasting which starts 8 days proceeding before Tsome Arba.
    • Tsome Arba: 40 days fasting which starts immediately after Tsome Hirkan up to Palm Sunday.
    • Tsome Himamat: 7 days fasting which starts on the Monday after Palm Sunday until Easter
  • Tsome Hawaryat (the fast of the Apostles): begins on the day following Pentecost until 5 July Ethiopian calendar.
  • Tsome Filseta (the fast of the Holy Virgin Mary): 15 days fasting which takes place from 1 - 15 August Ethiopian calendar.
Vegetarian meals such as lentils, ground split peas, grains, fruit, varieties of vegetable stew accompanied by injera and/or bread are only eaten during fasting days. Meat and diary products are only eaten on feasting days i.e. Christmas, Epiphany, Easter and at all other times. Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Christians, Jews and Muslims do not eat pork

The Rebuttal

The only bumping I did in the 90s that had anything to do with KoRn was when my gang of manwoks and I inspected kids' compact disc purchases as they left Newbury Comics. If we found KoRn, Marilyn Manson, or Limp Bizkit we bumped them in the face with our Scott Weilands and force fed them our Alex Vincents.
Having already slashed the tires of their mothers' camries, we folded their unconcious bodies into those streamlined beautific trunks and had sex with their moms. Their moms often came fiercly.

NOW

deal with it, and the next time you want to talk about the 90s maybe try miming what you mean instead of posting it. Then just follow that along, if it works out then hey, the heir apparent to the Ethiopian throne has got some moves.

and yes, Tonya and I had two magnificent summers together.

Seventh grade.

Rupert 'Stiles' Stilinski 02.27.2008 07:33 PM

When this was popular, I knew I was old. I didn't get it and it looked totally ridiculous--I sounded like a dad criticizing it.

Looking back on it, I still feel that way. I would criticize it the way people criticized The Smashing Pumpkins when I loved them in high school.

It's good that kids can have an emotional outlet through relatively popular yet underground music in life; I just really hated those fuckers and the way they seemed to flaunt their money.

And the music was just so incredibly shitty! They looked fucking moronic on stage. Their predictable "ba choom chommp cheemp chommmp chee" in the break every fucking song--it just really sucks.

People have bashed bands I've liked on the board many a time--I usually don't do that, but this band really sucks the wrong end of the garden hose.

Alex's Trip 02.27.2008 07:39 PM

I've never liked Korn. Always hated it. And hated the kids who liked it. But the kids who liked it when I was 13/14, like the apparently crappy stuff. I never really listened to Korn, but what I had heard I hated.

Everyneurotic 02.27.2008 07:41 PM

this music used to be so amazing, i never thought when i first heard them in like 1995 that they would be popular at all. they sounded so different from anything else.
