anybody really wish Yo La Tengo broke up instead of SY?

I do. They had some flashes of brilliance here and there, but everything post-I Can Hear has been an NPR mango salsa snoozefest. Audio ambien.

wasn't offended at all (if ever, I could have been offended only from 2:07 to 2:08 [in my time zone] anyway)

just an innocent couple of songs I like by them

I love Yo La Tengo, one of my favourite bands to listen to especially in the dead of night.

I think their best period was probably the 4 albums they released between 93-00. The last 3 albums have been good but a bit patchy in places.

They're great live as well, it can tend to be a little self indulgent especially when they play a 22 minute version of pass the hatchet whilst headlining a festival. It pretty much alienated most of the crowd, It was pretty great though.

A lot different from Sonic Youth, even so I always thought Flying Lesson (Hot Chicken #1) sounded like Wish Fulfillment, still a great band.

I don't get it... like we could have chose another husband/wife band to separate as opposed to SY? Is that the concept you're implying?

Haha, I guess in a fucked up hypothetical parallel universe sort of way. Could apply to Tom Tom Club, Mates Of State, Low, Arcade Fire, Sundays or Captain & Tenille too. Didn't mean to offend anybody, just super bummed about the K&T split. Laughter's the best medicine you guys!

Jeremy 10.26.2011 06:31 PM

I don't think anybody is offended, I think people here just really like to fuck with everybody else....

E. Noisefield 10.26.2011 06:49 PM

I don't care if YLT breaks up. So yeah, sure. But why? And who cares?

YLT released one of my favorite albums ever, and a bunch of other stuff that hasn't really interested me. So, I don't give a shit.

But I'd rather SY didn't break up, obviously.

dirty bunny 10.26.2011 07:33 PM

There was a time I was more into YLT. Those days are over now... I wasn't particularly impressed with them live, either. But I certainly have no wish to see them break up. They've still got good tunes and good albums.

god yes.
