Record Store Day's Black Friday 2019

The list. My picks (in general this excludes reissues and stuff I think I could live without... On the other hand, I'm so broke I can't purchase anything, so I could list them all. The possibilities...):

Cruel To Be Kind - Nick Lowe & Wilco

"1969" (Parts I and II): A Tribute To Scott Asheton - Larry Mullins + Mike Watt

The 1940 Recordings - Hank Williams

Sorry To Bother You (Original Score) - Tune-Yards

My Rival - Alex Chilton

Miles In Tokyo - Miles Davis

More Mess On My Thing - The J.B.'s

On The iPhone - Jenny Lewis. Includes a take on Dylan's "Standing In The Doorway"!

Stereo/Mono - Paul Westerberg/Grandpaboy. OK, this is a straight vinyl version of the 2CD set, but I just wanted to take the opportunity and say that if you don't think this is a towering rock album,

Dark Was The Night, Cold Was The Ground/It's Nobody's Fault But Mine - Blind Willie Johnson

File #733 U.F.O. - Further Investigation - Various Artists. This nutso release features a Heron Oblivion track.

Also keep an eye on the U.K. site, although they're more likely to have different titles on the "real" RSD, in April.

By the bye, you can pre-order the new William Hooker double LP, which comes out on November 22, via RSD:

Quote:

William Hooker has been recognized as one of the most innovative musicians and drummers of his generation, leading a variety of ensembles within the worlds of free jazz, experimental, and new music. Hooker's prior collaborators range from avant garde jazz musicians to indie rock legends like Thurston Moore and Lee Ranaldo of Sonic Youth. On his latest work, Symphonie of Flowers, Hooker weaves three sections into a whole, or a "symphonie" of sorts. As he says, "the piece begins and ends with the drum... my instrument. Its rhythm and variations of timbre are the stabilizing element."
