Now we're talking, the previous two were oh well - "meh".

...but still - I miss the somewhat slick Sonic Youth sound production they always had, album by album, they always aspired to sound different - these By the Fire songs sound like they were from the same sessions as: The Best Day, Ceasefire and so on, don't you think?

For these reasons - Kim's No Home Record is amazing, and Thurston is still chasing his own and Sonic Youth's tail, unfortunately - using the same (let's admit at this time boring) old tricks.

I know what you mean...but then, seeing T's band live is the best experience anyway no?

SY were never about traditional music tropes and to hear standard rock guitar solo's in Lee and Thurston's post sy music is disappointing to say the least.

fair enough.

I hardly listen to any Thurston's current side projects, be it impro or more experimental, as I have heard it all before (though I keep a track of it), there is/are so much/many other experimental music/bands to explore (though SY will always be my number one gateway band to experimental/contemporary stuff, which I love listen to this day). post SY will never be SY of 80ties, or 90ties, or even mid 00

btw, I just heard Siren. I do not know. to me it is pretty much straight forward rock track (ballad in this case) with some alternate tunings, which is odd, or disappointing for some, when talking in relation to T's post SY stuff aaand with some familiar production results as mil_pl mentioned above, but I love it. I actually love it. I even "hear a riff from ATL" era like (or maybe ATL feel? :D ). hope I will have a chance to see it live.

That person was wrong for being a Radiohead fan in the first place. :D

Great stuff. And I don't even know that much about guitars. Nor do I play an instrument. I have trouble ringing the doorbell sometimes.

first listen... AWSOME!!! incredible tunes :)

I love the album. I like them long compositions most. Breath, Siren, Locomotives and Venus rules. I wish to see Siren being performed live. Dreamers Work resonated with me big time after first listen. yeah, I hear bit of Sunday riff in Hashish and bit Cross of Breeze outro riff in Breaths and I do not mind it at all. I know probably lot of hard core SY fans will be moaning, but I do not think that is the case. I like it more then R+R consciousness. they are really tight as a band now. I like the production too. I am looking forward to listen to it again later today. Brilliant. Oh yeah and drummer sounds like Steve alright.

Really enjoying the album. As a band they are sounding so well formed. I love the SY feel to it all and wouldn't wish that away. Longer compositions are the favourites. Breath standing out. Great work Thurston.
