Helen Money/Alison Chesley

Saw her the other night and bought her self titled 1st and also her 2nd cd In Tune. Nice stuff. cello played with electronic guitar effects and live sampling.
I often hear strings (Trevor Dunn/Eric Freidlander) that I think, if only they'd amplify that, it would be thunderously great. This gets there.

I saw Helen Money open for Shellac last year and she was great. She did a cover of Political Song for Michael Jackson to Sing by the Minutemen that was stellar. She even nailed the solo on her cello which sounded both really strange and really awesome. I talked to her for a moment after the show, she was quite friendly.

Saw her a week ago opening for Shellac as well. Cool stuff. Once you get over how bizarre it first appears, it's actually pretty interesting stuff.

Like Pax, I talked to her for a moment and she is very friendly, like you can tell she's just a really sweet person.

She has been involved in some recordings of bands such as Mono, Broken Social Scene, Rachel Ries and many others before pursuing her muse in the avantgarde scene; and I'm glad she did. I enjoy her music a lot. You already know that I love good stuff made with the cello as the principal instrument, Mike. Hopefully now that she's touring as support for Shellac, that would attract more interest to her and I hope some recordings will surface. The only one I have i shared it at the bootlegs thread a while ago, maybe the link it's still active. I'll have to check out when I have more time. Also, thanks for trying to spark some discussion on relatively marginal music that deserves some attention, Mike. It's fresh air in a board getting rotten on praising the virtues of lame bands from the past decade.
