Yes, because the thread says 'British'.

re previous post, Britain = England, Scotland and Wales.

yeah, their music brings to mind old tea cups, grey skies and men pottering about in their garden sheds.

what the fuck do you people think britain is?

acousticrock87 08.21.2006 12:15 AM

I've always thought it was England. I assumed the UK included Scotland and Ireland, so never thought they needed another term for that. Plus, wikipedia makes it even more confusing.

sonicl 08.21.2006 03:11 AM

Why is no-one including Northern Ireland in Britain? The IRA haven't got their way yet, you know.

I think Hip Priest put it succinctly enough:

"'Great Britain' is England, Scotland and Wales.

'United Kingdom' is England, Scotland, Wales plus Northern Ireland ('The United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland' is the full title as it used to appear on passports etc).

Ireland as in the Republic of Ireland is part of the British Isles (the land mass) but not part of either Britain or the UK in the political/nationhood sense."
