I was in Africa last Feb and cassette tapes are still going strong.
It was such a nice sight to walk into any music store and see a tape section.
Hundreds of them!

I also walked into a hardware store that had a wall of brand new old school ghettoblasters.
Still regret I didn't get the one with a double deck and fake wood laminate.

So Africa is really a worm hole to the 80s/early 90s? I agree, definitely should have picked that ghettoblaster up. Not surprised really, obviously no format truly dies.

i love the cassete sound, love how compact they are. and i love that you can find them cheap as hell.

i just don't use them very often because well, skipping and repeating tracks is a pain

there is a place in vancouver that does them wholesale so needless to say its very popular with all the musicians. i bought a bunch for our own release. painted them all pink.

I listen to Replacements' Let it Be on cassette in the car fairly often. Same goes for Misfits' Earth AD and Legacy of Brutality.

"Time reports that for a new edition, the dictionary is cutting the beloved term along with words like “brabble” and “growlery.”"

Pelle 10.07.2011 09:49 AM

Luv that! :p

The Soup Nazi 10.11.2011 07:58 PM

Ban also the term "cuneiform script" whydontcha - who could possibly want to know about that, right? Fucking idiots.

jennthebenn 10.12.2011 11:09 AM

I now vow to use the word "brabble" more in my daily life.

Actually, the definition IS my daily life.

Verb – “To quarrel about trifles; esp. to quarrel noisily, brawl, squabble”
