Words used wrong that irritate you because they're used wrong

Mostly it's the dumbass media who are at fault for perpetrating misuse of the King's English.

My current pet peeve, as explained elsewhere in this forum: troop.

me?

gmku 12.01.2006 04:53 PM

No you're not the dumbass media. Are you?

!@#$%! 12.01.2006 04:57 PM

the King can eat my shitty shorts, and i'll piss on his face.

however, i hate the way that "graphic" has come to mean a) related to fucking b) related to bodily harm

so you end up with stupidass newspaper phrases like "graphic images" -- well fuck aren't all newspaper images "graphic"? aghhhh...

(in other words: pictures of people fucking are hence "graphic graphics" -- THAT'S RETARDED).

LEARN THE GODDAMN DIFFERENCE! YEESH!

"A Lot" is a two word phrase.
"Alot" is not a word.
"Allot" is a word, but meaning something else.

"Irregardless" is not a word. Just knock that shit off.

cryptowonderdruginvogue 12.01.2006 05:07 PM

Hell! I never knew "alot" wasn't a word. Thanks!:)

I hate misuse of "ironic."

I hate overuse (which is always misuse as well) of "random."

Oh that bothers me so much.

Prisstina 12.01.2006 06:22 PM

"Gay". Enough said.

Alex's Trip 12.01.2006 06:23 PM

Yeah. I hate it when someone says "Say something random!". Well it isn't really random if you were told to say something random....

Also the word "literally".

Someone said "I literally crapped my pants." He didn't really crap his pants, but he said "literally" anyway.

fishmonkey 12.01.2006 07:04 PM

iits never really used wrong but the word "soup" just wrecks my fuckin head.

I've said it a million times before (on this board alone) and I'll say it infinite more times... god dammit it pisses me off. All the kids that say shit like "I have a random sense of humour," or, "Yr so random," etc. FUCKIN' HELL, IT'S NOT RANDOM, ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS THOUGHT ABOUT CLOSELY TO GET THAT VERY REACTION.

Savage Clone 12.01.2006 07:16 PM

Around these parts, people use the word "borrow" when they mean "lend."
F u c k i n g A n n o y i n g .

I hate things like that!

In Elementary school, it annoyed me when people said "I won you!" when they meant "I beat you!".

Savage Clone 12.01.2006 07:20 PM

How about people that say "seen" when they mean "saw?"

"I seen it! Up thar in the sky! A flyin' saucer, I swear!"

Fucking A!

Anngella 12.01.2006 07:35 PM

YOUR instead of YOU'RE.
I see it all over kid's backpacks "Your so cool!"

When people begin every sentence with "pretty sure.."

Quote:

"Gay". Enough said.
Of course.

"Pretty sure your gay" = most. annoying. thing. ever.

Random bugs me too.
And they're/there/their + other misusings.
When people are speaking and say "OH-EM-GEE!"

Inhuman 12.01.2006 08:01 PM

This doesn't apply to words, but misunderstanding that the person is set to "away" in messenger. I often come back to my computer, only to find annoying people bitching at me because they think I'm there.

They are then ready to be blocked, and removed from the contact list.

Well, it stands for laugh out loud. I always just say "hahaha," but saying "lol" isn't something to compain about. They could be saying rotfl or something.
