Chris Cornell's Final Performance: Something Clearly Wasn’t Right

Oddly enough, it was sports radio where I heard the most unnerving breakdown of the Chris Cornell tragedy. How the concert venue is adjacent to the casino & hotel and how you must cross the casino floor to reach the hotel elevators......and how he was found dead about 30 minutes after leaving the stage......and as he hurriedly his way toward his room, he called his wife to let her know he was about to end it all......causing her to start calling Soundgarden / Casino security prompting them to breakdown Cornell's hotel door discovering his body.

Then earlier today, Cornell's Family Disputes He Died Of Suicide......so sad and odd all the way around!

wife said he told her he took to Ativan for anxiety before talking to her on phone. he was found on floor with an elastic excercise band around his neck. it had been attached to a carabiner which had been wedged between the top of the bathroom door and the door frame.

horrible.

Source? Or context maybe?

Not trying to be judgy, I'm just trying to make sense of this despite my pretty firm convictions that public mourning has taken on a decidedly perverse, almost grotesque new visage in the social media age.

Still want to know which facts are reliable and which aren't.

So Bytor posted that Cornell called his wife and told her that he was going to commit suicide, and did so fucking promptly. How does the Ativan report fit in here? He phoned to say he was going to commit suicide and, also, taking Ativan for anxiety? That doesn't make sense, unless the Ativan was part of the suicide attempt notice (e.g., "I'm anxious about the fact that I'm going to kill myself so I'm taking Ativan.")

Did what you read line up with what Bytor posted about the casino, the timeline, etc.?

From AllMusic:

Quote:

The 25th Anniversary Edition of Singles remasters the original album and adds a second disc filled with incidental music, outtakes, and other ephemera associated with the 1992 film. All the music that was heard in the film but didn't make it to the soundtrack is here: live performances from Alice in Chains and Soundgarden, plus Citizen Dick's Mudhoney send-up "Touch Me I'm Dick." Mudhoney themselves are here with a demo of "Overblown," which is paired with acoustic versions of Paul Westerberg's "Dyslexic Heart" and "Waiting for Somebody," both cut at the end of a scoring session. There are other elements from scoring sessions, too: a pair of unreleased numbers from Westerberg, Mike McCready doing a track of blues, and two sketches from Chris Cornell. The Soundgarden singer's Poncier EP -- so named after Matt Dillon's character in the film -- is presented almost in its entirety on the second disc ("Seasons" was on the proper album) and it has early versions of Soundgarden's "Spoon Man" and "Missing," plus "Flutter Girl," which would show up on his first solo album. Finally, Seattle bands Truly and Blood Circus -- both slated for Singles inclusion but cut at the last minute -- are here with the songs that would've made the cut if the cut weren't so cruel. Apart from the live material and maybe Poncier, nothing here is especially crucial, but nevertheless there's something about the wooly mess of acoustic instrumentals and grunge: it evokes how charming and ramshackle those early days of alt-rock were.

To My Sweet Christopher,

You were the best father, husband and son-in-law. Your patience, empathy and love always showed through.

You had always said I saved you, that you wouldn't be alive if it were not for me. My heart gleamed to see you happy, living and motivated. Excited for life. Doing everything you could to give back. We had the time of our lives in the last decade and I'm sorry, my sweet love, that I did not see what happened to you that night. I'm sorry you were alone, and I know that was not you, my sweet Christopher. Your children know that too, so you can rest in peace.

I’m broken, but I will stand up for you and I will take care of our beautiful babies. I will think of you every minute of every day and I will fight for you. You were right when you said we are soulmates. It has been said that paths that have crossed will cross again, and I know that you will come find me, and I will be here waiting.

I love you more than anyone has ever loved anyone in the history of loving and more than anyone ever will.

Always and forever,
Your Vicky
Devastatingly beautiful.

toxicology has not come back yet. Ativin is known to cause suicidal thoughts as a side effect of the drug.

Jeez the irony of that. Still gutted about it. Reading Vicky's letter to him makes it worse. I can't imagine getting to the state where leaving my loved ones is the better option. :( gutting

Yeah, well... it's no so extreme that it causes someone to do something they're not already flirting with. There's nothing special or unique about Ativan/Lorazepam. It works like all other benzodiazepines, several hypnotics (zolpidem) and its effects are comparable but less powerful than those of alcohol. It's actually the preferred benzodiazepine to treat severe alcohol withdrawal, because it has a similar effect but clouds judgment less.

It's basically just xanax/Klonipin/Valium with a slightly different efficacy and halflife. Blaming the drugs is not the way to go. Sure, abuse of any substance will increase your chances of depression, and these things should never be combined with alcohol, but it's not the drug's fault. May sound brash, but if he wasn't facing some demons he likely wouldn't have been combining the drug with alcohol. Drugs are just tools. Hammers and nails. They still require a hand to be used.

Cornell had Naloxone (Narcan), Butalbital (a sedative), Lorazepam (Ativan), Pseudoephedrine (a decongestant) and barbiturates in his system at the time of death.

Weird that Narcan would be in his system. Unless he was taking Suboxone/Subutex, which contains narcan. But then opiates would have shown up as well. The only reason to take Narcan (aside from treating an acute opiate overdose) is to discourage yourself from taking opiates in the first place.

Either way, he was going through some shit it seems.

How come we get to know this two weeks after he died and with other famous people it's "Oh, well, we need to wait for the toxicologic report, that's gonna take at least four months, or even until the next Olympics, in fact"?

Rob Instigator 06.05.2017 08:22 AM

Toxicology takes about a week or two usually. anything else is just people trying to cover up drug use or poisonings.
