Favorite Dylan album,

and more importantly, WHY it's your favorite. Go:

The Best of...

Because it's got his best songs on.

I've thought long and hard about this question, and I reckon my vote will probably have to go to John Wesley Harding. On the albums before, particularly the acoustic sides, the mood is extremely dark, this is brilliant, but John Wesley Harding comes along and offers some relief from this, the dark lyrical themes are still there, but musically it has such a charm, its a record with a freindly warmth that I won't ever tire of. So JWH is probably my all time favourite, but recently I've been enjoying the first album very much indeed.

hmmm

Highway 61 Revisited for me.

Its the strongest, in my opinion. Blood on the tracks is also pretty amazing.

Because the electric side is mesmerizing. The tension between Dylan and the audience, the defiance in the performance, the "play fucking LOUD" introduction to "Like a Rolling Stone."

^^^ a big +1 for this one. "Highway 61 Revisited" is a close second for me, too.

jimbrim 08.22.2008 09:26 AM

I quite like Highway 61, but I don't care so much for the rest of his stuff.

I think I own 15-20 of his albums, and although "Lay Lady Lay" would be my all time favorite Dylan SONG, I'd still have to say that BLONDE ON BLONDE is my favorite album. Why? Simply put:

[edit] Side two
  1. "I Want You" – 3:07
  2. "Stuck Inside of Mobile with the Memphis Blues Again" – 7:05
  3. "Leopard-Skin Pill-Box Hat" – 3:58
  4. "Just Like a Woman" – 4:53
Stunning.

Same here, but I love everything about "Desire". It's great the whole way through.

SonicBebs 08.22.2008 09:41 AM

it used to be Highway but now (at least for now) its The Freewheelin' Bob Dylan.

Its full of his humour and has some of my favourite Bob songs

noisereductions 08.22.2008 09:51 AM

When you guys say you can't swallow him... what do you mean? His voice or something?

I've loved many of his albums since I was a teen. So I'm just curious.

radarmaker 08.22.2008 10:14 AM

It's a tricky one really - Blood on the Tracks is my immediate choice, but that kinda stands apart from all his other albums, in my head at least. And since going through a horrible fucking mess of a break-up with my ex, it's too wrapped up in all the emotions of that time. Though oddly, I can happily listen to On the Beach, which also soundtracked the same period, without any problem.

So leaving that aside, I'd have to go with Bringing It All Back Home - I mean, fuck, when you've got Maggie's Farm, It's Alright Ma (I'm Only Bleeding), It's All Over Now Baby Blue, Gates of Eden, Mr Tambourine Man & Subterranean Homesick Blues on the same LP, I'm amazed that no-one else has chosen it already. Sheer fucking genius.

noisereductions 08.22.2008 10:18 AM

BRINGING IT ALL was definitely a considertation of mine.

SuperCreep 08.22.2008 10:26 AM
