^^^no, i didn't enjoy it. it was a presentation of a workshop he'd done the previous few days, but i was under the impression that he would also be performing himself, but he wasn't really involved. seemed a bit of a missed opportunity, especially since he was flown in from tokyo where he lives.

borbetomagus were really great though, sounded much different than the ones we saw in london and at atp.

gate was also good, although morley had trouble with his guitar plug and angrily threw away his guitar on the ground pretty early in the set to play the rest w/ laptop/electronics only.

i also saw volcano the bear at the same festival who were really great and highly entertaining. wasn't expecting that. one of the better gigs i've seen this year.

Louis Andriessen: De Staat
David Atherton conductor
Cristina Zavalloni soprano

Dutch composer Louis Andriessen's music is known for his idiosyncratic instrumental combinations and the combined influences of jazz and minimalism with dissonance, amplification and energetic rhythms. The UK premiere of Anaïs Nin, his new work for singer, ensemble and film, is paired with De Staat, a large-scale musical tour de force influenced by the energy of big band music and minimalistic rhythms.
