campy horror surf, punk, etc?

I know Adam is really into surf bands, and a few others on here as well. I'm looking for surf bands that incorporate a lot of horror themes, etc. I know there's stuff out there. Like bands that cover the Munsters theme and crap like that. I just dnt really know where to start.

And beyond that, I've been in the mood for a lot of sort of campy (mostly 80's) horror punk and stuff. Basically a lot of Misfits and THE RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD soundtrack (Cramps & Damed especially) and other suggestions?

Do Dead Boys qualify in that catagory?

noisereductions 09.15.2008 09:53 AM

you tell me?

demonrail666 09.15.2008 09:57 AM

The Mummies

noisereductions 09.15.2008 10:03 AM

I've only heard a few Mummies singles back in the day. Got an album you'd suggest?

Also I just thought of the Neptunas!

How are the Damed?

noisereductions 09.15.2008 01:34 PM

So far, awesome, Emmah. I first heard them on RETURN OF THE LIVING DEAD. They were sort of the UK Misfits if that gives you an idea. And they're still around today in some incarnation as well. The stuff I've heard is 80's, and is a bit more thrashy than Misfits.

EMMAh 09.15.2008 01:40 PM

Sounds like they're worth having a listen. Thank you :)

noisereductions 09.15.2008 01:41 PM

Sure. Havent' heard much... lemme know what you check out and if it's good?

EMMAh 09.15.2008 01:41 PM

Also you meant Damned right??

batreleaser 09.15.2008 01:42 PM

the gories
the mummies
gun club
flesh eaters
thee headcoats
thee mighty ceasers
laughing hyenas

the cramps

No, they're crap. But do sort of fit the criteria of what you're asking about.

Just stick with The Cramps (not that they're 'surf' but, you know) up to and including A Date With Elvis and all will be fine with the world. If George W. Bush was a Cramps fan, no way would the world be in the mess it's in right now.

good recommendation.

and although he's not psychobilly - he's got lots of horror movie aesthetic, I'd recommend Screamin Jay Hawkins.

Also try the Crazy World of Arthur Brown for psychedelic horror movie sillyness "I AM THE GOD OF HELLFIRE AND I BRING YOU...FIRE!!"
