If you like sax check out Rashan Roland Kirk. I also dug King Curtis Live at the Filmore West. It's great to see other fans of SY also love Jazz. I have for years back in the seventies I was the only one in my gang/posse/friends who listened to Jazz.

You can't go wrong with ANY Coltrane album! That being said I don't have any Prestige-era or earlier albums. I have nearly all LPs from Atlantic and Impulse eras, Village Vanguard boxset, Live Trane boxset on Pablo.

Ole Coltrane is 'Trane's excellent modal/Spanish workout

Anyone who loves this stuff should make an effort to go see Pharoah Sanders if and when he plays anywhere remotely near them.

First four Alice Coltrane albums are killers too.

There is a live performance of A Love Supreme in France from '65 or '66, havn't heard that one yet.

comparing Coltrane and Stooges is like comparing apples and pineapples

It is on the deluxe edition of a Love Supreme and is completely nuts. the one and only time they played it live. totally worth checking out, I almost want to say that it is better than the studio album.

A Love Supreme is one of the best albums I've ever heard. It's utterly moving, hopeful and uplifting, never failing to elicit an emotional response.
Of late I've been listening to Africa/Brass, and the Namia from the Village Vanguard set is amazing, too. Yesterday arrived a later collection, Live In Japan, but I don't have time this week to pay it proper attention. Two discs, six tracks, including a My Favourite Things that's 57'19. Mmmmn. Pharoah, Alice, Rashied Ali and Jimmy Garrison. I knew nothing of it until it came up on Second Spin. Can't wait.

and then the piano comes back!

been listening to alot of great people recently but Ornette Coleman really stands out for me. This Is Our Music is superb
but i heard a Charles Mingus track for the first time the other day (better get it in your soul, or something) and that was another level again. i've got 2 of his albums on order and cannot wait!
love the mix of New Orleans and Avant, even had a drone section! beautiful
