whorefrost 04.11.2008 08:45 AM

holy shit, that cover is truly appalling!

L3BURST 04.11.2008 08:52 AM

so "evertything" is less than in the previous thread :) hopefully it will complete !

Nic Fit, the search engine just gives the full threads, not easy...

Moshe, it seems we need you to know if there'll be or not an unreleased track !!

Because it seems nobody will buy it for the cover !!

nicfit 04.11.2008 08:52 AM

ha ha we should start a "caption this" thread on that image.
p.s. the search engine can give also single posts links ;)

whorefrost 04.11.2008 08:53 AM

totally

L3BURST 04.11.2008 08:59 AM

sorry for my english, what means 'caption this' ??

but I fully agree, this cover is the funiest of all SY, ahah:

- who is the guy ?! try to find him at yr local Starbuck !
- capuccino or cafe con late ?

thanks NicFit, I didn't see the advanced search first, indeed it's perfect

sarramkrop 04.11.2008 09:02 AM

It must be a joke. If it really is a joke hats off to da yoof and their sense of humour, but if it isn't (I doubt it) my jaws will drop any minute.

L3BURST 04.11.2008 09:12 AM

In Exclusivity: SYR 9's cover entitled "Experimental Stairways to Starbucks"

SYRFox 04.11.2008 09:14 AM

Haha that would actually be great :D

mil_pl 04.11.2008 09:21 AM

i think cover for hits is really good.

L3BURST 04.11.2008 10:49 AM

this could have been a nice cover with Kim instead !

Starbucks Enters MP3 Market?

This was only a matter of time. According to Business Digest, Starbucks' chairman Howard Schultz says the chain is considering selling MP3s.
"Within 12 months, probably, you're going to be able to walk into a Starbucks and digitally be able to fill up your MP3 player with music," said Schultz. "Over the next six to18 months you will see us look at it, perhaps test it." http://www.cbc.ca/thehour/blog/2007/01/

There will be some "surprises" in this album including a new song. All i can say right now is that you can look for hints on Chris Lawrence's site and that the new song is quite revolutionary... :p
Sorry I cant share more info but I guess you will know it all pretty soon.

Oh and I dig the cover for the CD. SY are being pretty ironic to themselves, to the Starbucks issue and to corporate America with this image.

✌➬ 04.11.2008 03:11 PM

Thanks moshe, I am now anxious for this album.

L3BURST 04.11.2008 03:14 PM

thanks for the clue, Moshe, you wrote "surpriseS" ! cool !

Chris L :
HITS ARE FOR SQUARES -- the curious Sonic Youth/Starbucks release, w/ an exclusive new track ("Wolves Ruin Tool"... or something like that, maybe I'm a little scrambled) & songs chosen by celebrity folk and such. Title taken from the lyrics of exclusive Rather Ripped outtake "Eyeliner"!

yeah. that's totally what they were thinking when they came up with that cover themselves, I'll wager.

pbradley 04.11.2008 07:42 PM

Reminds me of:

jennthebenn 04.17.2008 03:26 PM

No one picked "Starpower."

Sigh.

nicfit 04.17.2008 03:27 PM

it would be interesting to know who chose what.
that's a pretty cool list, btw, except for superstar. they got to n°1 with juno's soundtrack, what's the point in putting it on this too?

mil_pl 04.17.2008 04:19 PM

Bull in the Heather
Sugar Kane
100%
Kool Thing
Disappearer
Superstar
Stones
Tuff Gnarl
Teenage Riot
Shadow of a Doubt
Rain on Tin
Tom Violence
Mary-Christ
World Looks Red
Expressway to yr Skull
Slow Revolution - previously unreleased

This list is fuckin awesome! i like every track of this list!
just cant wait for hits are for squares........................

yr types ?
i think jeff tweedy picked up Superstar
beck picked a 100%

Moshe 04.17.2008 05:31 PM

No Lee vox!

avantgarde1 04.17.2008 05:55 PM

yeah that's disappointing, i loves me soem lee.

noisereductions 04.17.2008 07:26 PM

I'm so happy to see "Tom Violence" included. If I had to choose one song to express what makes SY so great, it'd be "T.V."

Death & the Maiden 04.17.2008 07:54 PM

Teen Age Riot is the only song from Daydream Nation. Some obvious ones have been left out - Death Valley '69, Schizophrenia. And there's only two (maybe it's three, I don't know about Stones) Kim vocals.

RanaldoNecro 04.17.2008 09:49 PM

For me it would be...2 cool rock chicks listening to Neu

other than that, not sure how i feel. i think the LP version (that is what this is, right?) of 'bull in the heather' is an absolutely perfect recording and is probably enough to indicate to somebody within 30 seconds if they dig sonic youth. and 'sugar kane' is a good second shot. the rest, i'll have to digest.

new tune, though!

Moshe 04.18.2008 12:23 AM

There was a rumor that Beck picked an acoustic version of the diamond sea... I wonder if that was the case.

It's too Thurston oriented.

dressedindreams 04.18.2008 04:36 PM

wait, are these still covers or a best of?

noisereductions 04.18.2008 05:24 PM

It was never covers... that was a misconception. It's songs picked by "celebs" and early on it was reported that said celebs would be doing covers. Not true.

I'd love to hear THAT. Are you sure that rumor wasn't started because Beck used to do an acoustic version himself? I mean, if there is an acoustic SY version out there, that's amazing.

In fact, I'd really like it if there were lots of alt. versions on here, rather than LP versions. Even edits would be kind of cool in a collectible way.

THREE Kim songs? Even if she sings the new tune, that will still be a grossly inappropriate balance. I guess other people picked the songs, but shit...

3 from Goo, 3 from EVOL, 2 from Dirty, and 1 each from Nurse, Murray St, Jet Set, Daydream, Sister, and Confusion. Nothing from Rather Ripped, Ghosts & Flowers, Washing Machine (), Bad Moon Rising, or the first EP.

Interesting list of songs! Will be curious to see who picked what...

fluxequalsrad 04.18.2008 10:30 PM

I have fixed the damage:

100%
Pattern Recognition
Saucer-Like
Bull in the Heather
Teenage Riot
Rain on Tin
Kotton Krown
Sunday
Reena
Eric's Trip
Tuff Gnarl
Candle
Starpower
Expressway to yr Skull
Slow Revolution - previously unreleased

I'm being fair.

The damage isn't fixed, there's nothing from Bad Moon Rising, and there's no Titanium Expose.
If a proper SY best of was to be made, it would need at least one song from every album, a few Lee songs, and more than a few Kim songs.

no it's good, lee have bad songs (for me) kim have 3 songs on this list, but hey it'll be in other vox versions, so... i don't know why you are so pissed off:p

tasteinmen 04.19.2008 05:24 AM

too much from goo and dirty if you ask me, but I suppose this was their peak era and they haven't featured on a best of yet. In away I'm glad superstar is on it because now it actually belongs on a SY album.
I wish there were more kim songs. This means we'll have remastered versions of evol and sister tracks. I wonder if they'll use the album or edit version of expressway.

mil_pl 04.19.2008 09:19 AM

this will be interpretion of songs by celebrities..
not the greatest hits remastered!
