uzumaki, I remember watching that film from the middle on being tired like fuck...its the one with the spirals, isnt it?

atsonicpark 10.31.2008 02:35 PM

yes, spirals and hair and crazy eyes and shit.

al shabbray 10.31.2008 02:43 PM

yes exactly, I am so glad that Ive read that word uzumaki here, cause that was one of the films I saw, really liked but because of tireness ever missed checking out.
I totally dig that visual style. but I doubt that my videotheque still got it, is it worth a puchase?

atsonicpark 10.31.2008 02:46 PM

Sure, I'd buy a copy if I saw it cheap.

al shabbray 10.31.2008 02:48 PM

same for me.
I dont want myself to collect another media besides music/videogames that hard that I cant afford anything to eat anymore. so I restrict myself on DVD to things I really love too, like david lynch stuff ad recently that awesome blade runner box.
Ive checked amazon, and used for 5 euro is pretty cheap, 8 euros with shipping

noisereductions 10.31.2008 02:54 PM

Uzimaki translates to "spiral", son.

Adam, I'm so glad you finally saw The Burning and loved it. One of my favorites. I'd give it a 9, but we're pretty much on the same page. Here's 2 others I'd recommend to you (that have nothing to do with The Burning, they're just great-- you may have seen both but....)

Do it.

i had some people over for halloween to watch horor movies. we saw black christmas which was ok. kinda disapointing. then everybody left and i saw the amityville horror. i dont think ive ever been creeped out as much from a movie.
i dont know if its the film itself, if im just really freaked out by ghosts and similar things (i get freaked out by tv shows about ghosts), i it was cause it was late and i was watching alone, if during one scene when a fly swooped in, at the excact same time a fly started bothering me, or if it was because halfway through the film i realized that i started watching it at 3:11 am and most of the shit that happens here is at 3:15 am. anyhoo. wow that was scary. gore and thrasher films dont scare me. ghost movies do for some reason.

noisereductions 11.01.2008 10:18 AM

Black Christmas is a rarity for me, where I think the remake is so much better than the original.

davenotdead 11.01.2008 10:48 AM

FUCKING PLANTS!

davenotdead 11.04.2008 04:22 AM

I KNOW!

and the whole emotionally disconnected acting thing was annoying

atsonicpark 11.04.2008 07:31 AM

saw v - 2/10 (watched this one on watch-movies; I refuse to give these people any money.. I dunno how I managed to sit through 2 and 3 of this series, but my friends were all pretty wild about these movies... when I saw 4, I really liked it actually, and I thought the series was gonna go in a cool direction, but this is easily the worst of the 5! Jesus!)

2ldk - 7/10 (really brilliant minimalist violent Japanese flick with only one location and 2 people... extremely entertaining and well-made though I probably won't want to watch it for a while)

exiled - 7/10 (another really good johnnie to film, this one is really slow to get going and a bit overlong but I enjoy how quiet and understated the whole thing is)

the glamorous life of sachiko hanai - 5/10 (japanese pinku film with the most ridiculous plot yet... a sex worker gets knocked out and gains psychic powers and this somehow ends with george bush's severed finger raping her and her saving it and people trying to kill her to get the finger so they can start a nuclear war; not as good as it sounds because there's just too much unerotic sex in it, but it's probably worth watching once..)

viewtiful_alan 11.04.2008 09:57 AM

On halloween: Zack and Miri make a Porno
Pretty good, not as awesome as I thought it would be.
7/10

Last night:
Andre the Butcher 10/10
just fucking amazing

Eraserhead
9.5/10 I've never reacted to a movie like I did to this one. Normally I can say if I liked or disliked a movie much more clearly, but I cant with this one. Visually though, this movie was just fucking fantastic.

noisereductions 11.04.2008 10:01 AM

Eraserhead I agree on wholeheartedly. Yet, I strongly disagree on Andre The Butcher. I couldnt have hated it more! Zack and Miri looks great though.

krastian 11.04.2008 10:27 PM

Pretty entertaining if not equally horrifying.

Man, I didn't know that Bush talked to Ted Haggerd every Monday morning.....Jesus, indeed.

I was hoping that it would be better/more focused on his painting a la Pollock.

That guy played a pretty good Francis Bacon though.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 11.04.2008 10:29 PM

LittlePuppetBoy 11.04.2008 11:10 PM

Speed Racer

Jesus Christ what I horrible movie! The "pancakes" scene near the beginning almost made me throw something at my TV.

krastian 11.04.2008 11:15 PM

Ha ha, why on Earth would you watch that, mang??

davenotdead 11.04.2008 11:58 PM

speed racer was good... cmon, you had to have known what to expect right?

atsonic, RE: yr SAW comments up there. Strangely SAW IV was by far my favorite. I really liked the first one when it came out. I mean, I saw it in the theater and it had this cool vibe to it at the time. II and III were ok I thought, but then IV was like "wow, I actually REALLY liked that one!" SOOO now I am interested in seeing V. But they shoulda kept Shawnee Smith as the new Jigsaw.

atsonicpark 11.05.2008 08:23 AM

Well yeah IV is probably my favorite too as I said above. Well, IV and I. I think II is one of the worst films ever, and III isn't much better. But trust me when I say part V is the WORST.

For those with netflix, I just made a list:

100 "brain bending films"

since everyone else is doing a scoring system. 9/10
