Living rooms: discuss, post pictures, etc

hello bitches,

i'm moving to a slightly bigger house, which means we won't have to put an office and our "meeting room" where the living room should be. this means i get to have a proper living room.

i'm ditching some old furniture (not really, just "downgrading" to lesser functions) and thinking about what to do with the place. so i was wondering what people here think of living rooms and their function and aesthetic.

no, i'm not asking you to "tell me" what to do. i'm just looking for inspiration, ideas, pictures, shit of that sort. because some of you are, you know, high on the good taste scale, or at least kooky.

so, post your favorite living rooms?

!@#$%! 01.26.2008 05:57 PM

for example,

I HATE THIS TYPE OF SHIT

what's its function? what does it convey? i'd take a shit on that little glass table & urinate on the carpet. just to express my contempt.

also:

ewww. waiting room on steroids.

and on a related note:

who the fuck lives here? where is all their STUFF? who left the book open in such an uncomfortable place?

The only questionable thing in that photo is the sectional sofa.

i guess i need a record player in sight.

i posted that as an example of something i'd more or less like but looks like the neutron bomb was dropped.

das klon, i've been looking at this sofa-

- it can be snapped open for people to sleep on it.

another one

and this setup:

comes only in black or white. bitch not included.

I have rearranged a little (can't remember if I posted these, so sue me):

That red sofa on top in your last post is pretty great. I've see those before.

that's what im talking about. i can see STUFF. people live there.

anyway, i was counting on your good input. thanks.

i promise if i ever crash a party in your house (im not counting on being invited) i will NOT piss or shit AT ALL.

m1rr0r dash 01.26.2008 06:17 PM

it would help to see photos of the new space, which may not be possible... but for what it's worth, i prefer bold minimalist spaces. they only work if they remain relatively unclutted, but they're super versatile.

rem koolhaas designed this house for a handicapped person in bordeaux, so versatility and accessibilty were a priority. the house is organized vertically around a modified frieght elevator that allows the wheelchair bound user to essentially move from room to room (and access the shelves of a 3 story vertical bookshelf) by moving his little patch of floor up and down through the house.

...i'm looking for more photos that show the furniture (since i figure you're not putting a frieght elevator in yr new house...)

!@#$%! 01.26.2008 06:19 PM

hot damn.

i might post pictures next week.

or wait i might have something a friend took.

Savage Clone 01.26.2008 06:19 PM

m1rr0r:
That house is like whoa.
Thanks for that.

!@#$%!:
It' not technically crashing if you're invited, you know.

Savage Clone 01.26.2008 06:20 PM

I also highly recommend stuff made by Danish people, especially lamps.

oh those are cool as fuck

m1rr0r dash 01.26.2008 06:33 PM

what i like about the way koolhaas' maison a bordeaux (that is appicable to houses not containing frieght lifts) is that a well laid out and furnished minimal space (and this is as much a lifestyle choice as an interior design thing) can be converted from office

....to lounge with relative ease.

....of course having a bad ass skylight above a three story elevator shaft/bookshelf hung with famous artwork doesn't hurt. but the principle holds true in the simplest and plainest of spaces.

holy fuck, those start at $8K and go up to 12...

errrrr, let's revisit my "cool for proles" choices...?

m1rr0r dash 01.26.2008 06:46 PM

i know what your saying about having stuff and the thing is most architectural photographers are being paid by their magazine employers to document newly completed homes, so they intentionally stage the shot with as little evidence of human occupation as necessary... just like even extremely gorgeous women will often look ridiulous if they wear a piece of couture exactly the way a runway model would with the crazy makeup and goofy hair styles...

anyway since i personally would be happy living in spaces that most people would not consider "home-like" and since i'm also a huge book nut... my ideal living room would look something like this:
