I've stated this elsewhere, but...the 6/12/87 gig would be a great "definitive" Sister
set. Amazing energy.

halgreen 03.04.2013 01:50 PM

I'd love to give that a listen, and it's not on Utkonos. Would any kind soul care to upload it?

Right. While this is exciting news, consider that they already have the following live releases relative to the following eras:

Self Titled EP era: disk 2 of deluxe edition, Sonic Death
Confusion/Idols era: Sonic Death & Live In Venlo
Bad Moon era: Walls Have Ears, Gila Monster (vhs), Live at Stache's (vhs), Blood On The Beach (vhs)
Evol era: Live At Continental Club
Sister era: Hold That Tiger
Daydream era: disk 2 of deluxe edition
Goo era: Dirty Boots EP, Yeak Punk Broke (vhs, dvd)
Jet set era: Blastic Scene
Ripped era: Battery Park
Eternal era: iTunes Soho

am I forgetting anything else?

Most of these were limited release, out of print, & now collectors items of course. I have 9 out of the 16 I've mentioned. Seems like they are missing Dirty Era, and Washing Machine thru Nurse eras. At this point I'm most interested in any instrumental outtakes and soundtracks similar to Made In USA, Kali Yug, Demonlover, Destroyed Room, & SYR 9.

Thurston Moore & Loren Connors
The Only Way to Go Is Straight Through

April 20, 2013
Northern Spy Records

hipster_bebop_junkie 03.11.2013 10:28 PM

That's great to know except for the Record Store Day exclusiveness, which would be a shitty thing if you lived in a Third World country and were interested in that record. I'll still hunt it down, though.

...And speaking of new releases, producer Marc Urselli (who has worked with Lila Downs, John Zorn, Laurie Anderson, and Mike Patton, to name a few), has announced via twitter that he's currently mixing a record by Thurston Moore & John Zorn. I'm very pumped about this prospect.

I NEED that Connors/Moore LP.

There was an advert for it in the March issue of The Wire. It didn't have a release date.

Very nice. Firefox gave me some shit before letting me access the site, though - does anyone know for sure if that store is on the up-and-up?

the link was a https address, remove the s and you get no such security warning

I was feeling pissed off and disappointed Motto Books didn't work for me even after multiple attempts. In case it could be useful for anyone else who might want to order it (it seems to be gone at Motto Distribution now), mono.konsum still has it in stock, and it was pretty easy to place an order from there (it costed me €8.45, including postage):

Thanks for the tip. I hope this thing's still available in a week; I've bled out way more than enough money for the current credit card cycle already...

Motto Books has sent me an e-mail to inform me they put the title back in stock, and they have been very kind to offer their help to generate/process an order manually for me in case I still were interested in purchasing this, given the complications I had to order from their site. Bottom line: I think you should be able to get a copy.

Anyway, Master Musicians Of Jajouka will be releasing a new album soon, which will include participation by Lee Ranaldo on one of the tracks.

Neat-o. Hopefully the transatlantic delivery will be quick as well.

hipster_bebop_junkie 04.05.2013 11:31 PM

I hit the newsstand today, and was flipping through the pages of a very recent issue of Q Magazine. Found a favorable review of Low and Chelsea Light Moving's latest albums, which also included brief interviews with Alan Sparhawk and Thurston Moore, respectively.

Thurston was asked if he has any upcoming releases and he mentioned the Otoroku LP with Alex Ward; the LP on Open Mouth consisting of him and Bill Nace & Joe McPhee; a CD of his and Mats Gustafsson; a CD of his and John Zorn, all of which have been already mentioned in this thread; and he also said there's a record in the works by him with Nels Cline, and certainly a few collaborations with diverse musicians related more with improvisation than with anything else, or something along those lines. :)

I didn't buy the magazine, though.

hipster_bebop_junkie 04.12.2013 03:46 PM

Bump.

Thurston Moore has participation on David Markey & Heavy Friends' "Volume Infinite", which is due to be released on July 9th, 2013 by Thick Syrup Records. It can be streamed now on Bandcamp, though:
http://thicksyruprecordsrecords.band...olume-infinite

guest 04.13.2013 07:32 PM

were any of the rumours about a new original silence record based on anything? like was it actually confirmed? I might just be pulling this out of my arse, I don't know.

halgreen 04.17.2013 07:42 PM

I got my copy of Thurston's Last Notes with Bill Nace and Joe McPhee.
Here's some images.

And on the runout of the A side it says "Pirates Press"

I just finished listening to this and I really enjoyed it. Very subdued overall, which I liked. The saxophone and the guitars never got too chaotic, but set a nice mood throughout. My only complaint is the 320 kbps mp3 of the second set.

bloodcrystallisetosand 04.18.2013 05:40 PM

Though you wise folks are probably already well aware, Thurston has new Record Store Day LP with Loren Connors. Just a gentle reminder to have wallets at the ready on Saturday. Will be my first RSD, quite excited and thought I'd share the love.
