If you're into soundscapes or stuff that hangs on the divide between beautiful melody and noise, you'll probably like this. It was originally recorded to help me sleep better, but it can be listened to in most contexts and still be really neat.

It's sequenced and designed as an album experience, though of course you can listen to it any way you want :)

Let me know what you guys think.

frades 01.18.2010 06:01 AM

these ones I liked:
Improvisation for Erik
Shine a Light on Every Room (part 1)
The Dying Song_Mon Ami

these ones I disliked (especially because of piano):
Falling Figures Share the Skyline
Moon Ballad_Improvisation for Trevor_Shine a Light on Every Room (part 2)

nowideau 01.18.2010 07:14 AM

Thanks for the feedback, though there isn't any more piano in Shine a Light on Every Room (part 2) than there is in the first part, so it's strange to me that you like one and not the other.

Seandi 01.19.2010 04:44 PM

like it, gave it to a friend who really likes this kind of thing and she really likes it.

Just finished listening, nice compositions! I liked the 2nd track best. If you added more bass and percussion, some of the driftier tracks would serve well as seduction music.

ps, like your Coetzee quote, fantastic writer.

Haha. I could re-title the album sexsongs. I'll bare this in mind if I ever need to turn out a porn soundtrack real fast.

PS: Coetzee is amazing. Waiting for the Barbarians is, in my opinion, the definitive fictional work about living under oppressive regimes.

yeah, I had a great collection of seduction music before I got married. :p

read ALL of the JMC's stuff. The latest things are a little more difficult to get into, but are well worth the effort.

Slow Man is pretty, well, slow. Apart from that I find he has hardly diminished, though I guess he has become a lot more overtly post-modern and experimental in his approach to the form and structure of his novels.

His latest book, Summertime, is amazing. For me it ranks up alongside Age of Iron, Waiting for the Barbarians and The Life and Times of Michael K as being his best. It's very particularly South African, though. Like Age of Iron or Waiting for the Barbarians, it's almost like looking at an x-ray of one's own feelings towards the whole Apartheid regime and the horrible disfunction in so much of South African society, which still unfortunately resonates in the present day.
