vashti bunyan - just another diamond day
philips, 1970

Probably the most important album to contribute to this decade's revival of folk music. Vashti Bunyan crafts an album worth of beautiful simple folk songs that are almost as catchy as children's nursery rhymes (and some which are even based on them). Vashti's delicate voice is backed by a simple finger-picked guitar with other instruments like glockenspiel and flute and makes for a nice late night listen

If you like... Animal Collective, Joanna Newsom or any other "freak folk" artist then check this out... now.

Yeah, Vashti Bunyan rules. I like this one quite a bit, but Lookaftering or whatever it was called is also just about as good.

I've not actually heard Lookaftering, are those lyrics from it? She sounds a lot more angrier in her old age.

this has been on my "to buy soon" list for years! I really need to get it, especially after how awesome the EP with Animal Collective was.

I really like this one but haven't gotten to get Lookaftering yet...I really need to do so.

Maybe not the most important as such, since that would imply that Devendra Banhart contributed much to this world, but I love this record.

really lovely record. simple and beautiful.

I was a bit iffy when I first got it since I heard a lot of Fairport Convention and Incredible String Band comparisons (both of which I don't care for), but this sounds nothing like either of them. Very sparse and lovely and way before its time.

Nice to know this forum likes this album. It's one of my favourites!
