Favorite NWW Album

I think mine has to be their first album Chance Meeting On A Dissecting Table Of A Sewing Machine And An Umbrella. Notable mentions go to An Awkward Pause and Soliloquy For Liliath.

I haven't heard anything by them yet, although a kind fellow on the board is sending me a CDR mix. I can't wait, I hear only good things about them...

porkmarras 01.02.2007 10:03 AM

I can't decide between Soliloquy For Liliath or Thunder Perfect Mind which happens to have one of the most beautiful covers ever.

If you don't own anything by them, you might find this interview by David Keenan interesting.

This has the potential to be the greatest thing ever. Definitely have to pick that one up. Maybe a couple copies… anything to encourage this type of behavior in Mr. Stapleton.
BTW, the January 2006 issue of the Wire has a fantastic interview with Stapleton. Sporting a Snoop Dogg t-shirt, Stapleton talks about his hip hop obsession, and how MCs will trade working with him for backing tracks to their own material. And American rappers with batshit crazy experimental Nurse With Wound background sounds like shit I want to hear.
Bitchin ‘n’ Bitin ‘n’ Pimpin comes out this summer according to the Durtro web site.

That's part of the reason why that is my favorite and what a title...

Savage Clone 01.02.2007 11:11 AM

I can't narrow it down!

Earlier favorites:

The Ladies Home Tickler
The Sylvie and Babs HiFi Companion

Mid period:
Spiral Insana
Cooloorta Moon

Recent favorites:
Alice The Goon
An Awkward Pause
Who Can I Turn To Stereo
Stereo Wastelands

Big honorable mentions to the side project Masstishaddhu and the two Stapleton/Tibet LPs, "The Sadness Of Things" and "Musical Pumpkin Cottage."

the title is actually a line from Lautréamont's "Maldoror" (which might very well be my favourite book ever): in Maldoror, Lautréamont describes something as "as beautiful as the chance meeting on a dissecting table of a sewing machine and an umbrella"...

yes, i really like that album.

i do not feel particularly qualified to pick a favourite n.w.w. album as i must say i do not know their discography too well... but what i can say is that i really like "merzbild schwet", "an awkward pause", "alice the goon", and what i have heard from "soliloquy for lilith" sounded excellent.

i need to hear more by them.

Cool, thanks for that, I may have to check the book out. I havn't heard everything but it could be a good new years resolution.

PAULYBEE2656 01.02.2007 01:08 PM

Tokolosh 01.03.2007 05:57 AM

The Thunder Perfect Mind cover art by Babs Santini, makes me think of a cross between Manet, Gschossmann and Bosch.
Love it!

I saw quite alot of Manet in London just before xmas and I would have to agree.

Loved this one at the Courtauld

Funny enough, that's the painting I thought of first, when it comes to the embroideries and textures.

Here's another uncropped & mirrored version of TPM

jon boy 01.03.2007 09:51 AM

my parents had that painting on their wall all through my childhood.

Tokolosh 01.03.2007 10:08 AM

Manet often painted himself in his work (top right hand corner). Velazquez did that too in Las Meninas.

Anyway, back to the topic.

Florya 01.03.2007 12:32 PM

I havn't heard much of their stuff since 'Nylon Coverin', Body Smotherin', but I used to really like 'Sylvie & Babs' and Homotopy to Marie', The 'Live at The Bar Maldoror stuff was pretty good, but I must admit to preferring Current 93's live output more.
I'll have to relight that fire. Hell, there's plenty to choose from!

As for the book, Lautreamont was a surrealist genius, shame he died so young. Maldoror is well worth a read, I understand there is a version of it that was illustrated by Dali. Now that would be something to see!

apparently here are Dali's illustrations:

http://www.lockportstreetgallery.com/Maldoror.htm

would be better to have them next to the text, though.

Florya 01.05.2007 10:39 AM

Thanks for the link!
You're right tho, it would be better to see them in context.
