Elections in Slovakia - fascists made its way into the parliament

Sorry, I know you guys are probably not interested in this, but I need to get it out of my system.

On Saturday, Parliamentary elections were held in my home country Slovakia. The biggest shock was the success of a political party called LSNS, which is basically a neo-fascist group of racist, anti-semitic pigs who adore and nostalgically remember the fascist Slovak regime during WWII.

With 8%, they stand no chance of becoming a part of government coalition (plus, all the other parliamentary parties immediately denied any signs of potential cooperation with these assholes), but only the idea that 8% of voters supported this twisted mess of a party, is terrifying. It's 2016, not 1942, damnit.

Are they endorsing Trump?

I heard about this on Democracy Now last week. I think this is predictable given the mass incursions by the Syrian refugees and a less than stellar economic situation.

The economic situation is not so bad - it's actually been getting better lately. We've got some new major investments etc.

But the main problem is that our Prime Minister (=a major asshole) built his election campaign on fear of immigrants and dubbed his campaign headline as "We protect Slovakia", like there were actually any imigrants who give a fuck about coming to Slovakia. No, they all want to get to Germany, Austria and more developed countries like us. But the PM has started stirring shit like that and the people reacted in a very unpredictable way - they didn't vote for him, but for the even more extreme option: for Kotleba and his fascist party.

Very bad news, shame on our country.

you're really lucky they only get 8%. I'd say that's a lot better than many "progressive N European countries, the UK and the USA:mad:

I wish US was parliamentarian so that those 8% of TEA baggers wouldn't be allowing extremism to dominate the Republicans.

Its also sad how for thousands of years xenophobia has fueled prejudice and bigotry. No need to fear the "others" as they are the same as any of us. Further its so foolish for people to blame other people who don't even live on a country yet for the existing problems!

Yes, Northern Europe is pretty bad, as I've heard. Also Hungary's got Jobbik, which according to recent surveys, is the second most popular political party in the country at the moment.
I'm not sure about the UK and USA though - things are not as bad as in the aforementioned, I guess, as far as far-right extremism is concerned.
