Bump.

Video trailer for Wild Flag's new album (It's been out there for a while according to the date on that vimeo page, but i saw it just now):

I saw them at Aladin's.

Good stuff, but for a kid who literally grew up with S-K (seen them more than any other band but one) it was just like.... "uh. ok. But why not just regroup SK?"

Not that big of a fan any more anyway, so I didn't really care. They were very good live and well worth the two hour drive.

ps. this shit is old news, bros. :)

live i thought they didn't do enough mary songs, and only janet and carrie talked(saw twice) that's fine, but it does make it seem like a sleater rehash a bit...

mary has gotten a bit shy it seems, but its still not quite a sleater rehash, are you familiar with the Spells? Really, listening to the FULL album of Age of Backwards including tunes Carrie put out on NPR blog awhile back, you can clearly hear wild flag in that project from way back in 1999! rather, I'd say the wild flag sound is really an evolution of what mary and carrie have always done together, they sync well as musicians. I agree that mary needs to up her stage presence and showmanship a bit, she's not exactly a rookie, but they have a good banter between all four so its not just the janet and carrie show. Honestly it seems to me from that carrie really doesn't want to be the "leader" but has been kinda thrown into that roll by default cause even her banter has been quite awkward and forced at times, not like her old self in S-K, I can tell this band has a shyer, more subdued chemistry then the livelier S-K combination. I also adore hearing janet do her crazy polyrhythmic drumming! I been listening to bootlegs lately, I really don't even WANT the new album

if i remember the spells was split equally between mary and carrie(i think i actually got it from yr link) what i'm talking about is mary singing maybe 3 songs a set and carrie doing 10

i didn't say anything about the sound of the music or the showmanship. didn't have an issue with that....

as far as good banter between the 4... well the shows i went to mary talked once during the first show and it wasn't long or anything, and i think not at all the second show, and rebecca never talked.

carrie talked between almost every song, and janet would talk once at length per show and also have a bit of banter with carrie while mary and rebecca wait for the songs to start.

so that's what i'm talking about, not a lack of collaboration in the music or anything.

yeah the album is really good, no complaints from me

keep poppin pimples 09.17.2011 02:05 PM

honestly this album is sickeningly fun. janet's precise and funky drumming is like a rock version of harvey mason, i never thought of mary timony as being a shredder, but she shreds on this album. carrie may have become my joey ramone on this one, i'm not really a keyboard rock person, but the keys on this are pretty much always cool, never detracting from the music. good lyrics on the mary songs especially

I don't think this the debut of "Nothing"; they've been playing it at least since October. But it doesn't matter - this is THE SHIT. I captured all four "HD" mov videos and they're facemelters of the highest caliber. HOO-WAH!
