Which SY song do you most frequently find popping into your head?

Disappearer.

Hoarfrost.

Actually "Hoarfrost" is the song I force into my head when I can't sleep because of persistent, stupid thiughts filling my noggin, or when I have an absolute shit song stuck in there. So I guess it doesn't really fall into my head naturally. I've been using it as a cognitive sedative and earworm cure for years and years, so I've probably trained my brain to have it on deck.

It's great though. Such a calming song, but also dynamic and interesting enough, with enough different moving parts, to hold my attention. Plus it's one of my all time favorite Sonic Youth songs.

Aside from that, I tend to get "Tom Violence" stuck in my head quite a bit.

100% all the times, all days of my life!!

Schizophrenia is my fave Sonic Youth track of all time.

It brings back memories of buying the album straight from the west coast distributor at the time - JEM Records - while I was working there! I was only 21 at the time. Now, I will be 51 in January! Holy Crap!

none really. sometimes it's just the sound of the guitars producing some melody or.. uh, noise that my brain is making up than an actual SY tune.

their music isn't immediately catchy. it's more wondering and open ended to get stuck in the head. which would make it more melodic than catchy. melodic yeah maybe in a weird way, catchy no.

it's like this, Beach boys melodic. Beatles catchy. there's a difference I think. right?

I totally get what yr saying. I was gonna type something like this last night. I've been forcing songs in my head for years now just to go to sleep and get disturbing thoughts out. I miss having the natural flow of something pop in.

Yeah they're definitely different things, melodicism and catchiness. A lot of really catchy songfs aren't particularly melodic. But I think the Beatles were definitely masters of melody. The Beach Boys were masters of harmony, which is in my opinion their defining trait.

Also, they could be catchy as all get-out man!

Yeah, I hear ya. I still get songs stuck in my head of course, but most of them aren't conducive to sleep or relaxation.

"Hoarfrost" has been my spiritual Valium for fucking ever. It's like a nursery rhyme at this point. You know when the drums kick in really smooth like right before the "high above like a spider.." bit? That lulls me pretty well.

Reena.

Disappearer most of the time for me too (that instrumental last part of the song is something else). Recently I had 08:09 onwards from ''The Diamond Sea'' stuck in my head quite a lot.

Put me in the equation it's allright.....

Either Expressway (while driving) or I'm Insane.
Songs usually pop up at the wheel. There's no radio in the car, no sound at all (the engine shouldn't count), and that's when and where it all happens for me.
I get to sing Expressway too doing all instruments through my teeth.
There are Liars songs too, a bunch of booze related tunes (Here stands the glass, Brother my cup is emply, It's just that song) and Ramones stuff.
Plus Jeanette's Porque te vas.
Those are my usual suspects.
