Again, this shouldn't be the main priority at all. If push comes to shove I think the only person who has enough proper credentials to do something professional with the mastering is Terminal Pharmacy, so if he's up for it that's fine. He'd also be ideal because he's not a musician himself, so that doesn't create a bad atmosphere between people.

Then there is no point to submit something as an artist because the whole album will just sound like a load of disjointed crap. The person who masters their shit the loudest will make everyone else sound stupid in comparison...

It would be foolish to make such a compilation. I don't care if I'm the one mastering it or not, but it has to be done.

fine, it won't be the end of the world I'm sure. I'll still listen to all the tracks all the way through regardless.

Rob Instigator 11.22.2010 09:23 AM

I am down to send art for this endeavour

I really don't think there's any need for "coherence" for something like this.
It's not an album, it's a compilation of disjointed stuff, and it's not a commercial release, so a few flaws are more than acceptable, the only thing which is probably worth curating is some sort of "sensed" tracklist.
As for loudness, just turn up and down the volume when you feel like doing so while listening haha, even if it's not the same thing or "technically/formally correct" people interested will still enjoy a few listens

kinda simplistic POV, I know, but hell, seems the most natural thing to do to me.

EVOLghost 11.22.2010 09:39 AM

I'd so be down...if I only had the resources.

to make it official I am in it. collabing with genteel death!
if this all takes form in the end and there would be a place for another tune I might put another into it, or maybe not.
priority collab!

Sorry, I don't understand a point of view that shoots itself in the foot before it even starts walking. When there is an option that can make a project sound better, less disjointed, and more cohesive with the end result being a better presentation of everyone's submissions, I see no reason why this shouldn't be done.

I meant to pm you again to say that you can do the mastering of the track yourself, if everything goes to plan.

That sounds cool.

I didnt meant any mastering-work.
just got some halfway finished tunes sitting around and if one of them would fit into it in the end, I might consider. if we got the need of more tunes, number wise. but it seems there are already enough contributors!

after i read through the whole thread I must say that I am kinda excited bout the whole compilation (artistwise)

I don't mean to start a whole discussion about mastering, even less so in this specific thread.
Just bear with the fact that people may like to "present" their stuff as they want, without the intervention of someone they don't necessarily have trust in or share a similar "taste"/"intention" with (since mastering is a subjective process that not necessarily has good results that will make tracks sound better, especially to the "artists' ears").
As much as you went for "self-mastering" rather than saving+spending $$$ to have the job done by someone else (despite the improvement this could result in), people may prefer to just give it a try on their own or don't give a shit about it and live happily ever after in either case.
It's an option, not a necessity.
I doubt you paint your car white every summer to prevent overheating under the sun just because it's the best option.

No, I park it under shade because, like mastering, it is the best option.

There's not always a spot in the shade, dear friend, you're way too optimistic.
