Pearl Jam On SNL Tonight

Hey. I know most of you guys don't like the Pearl Jam, but for us that do they'll be on SNL tonight. I'm guessing they'll play that "World Wide Suicide" song and maybe something else off the new record.

kingcoffee 04.15.2006 09:34 PM

Pearl Jam are a pretty talented band. But I still don't fully accept them. I feel thjat theyb were kind of cashing in on the whole grunge rock phenomena, even though members of the band had been in the scene for a while. Some of the guys in the group piss me off. Mostly Mike McCready. Vedder's pretty cool. I like some of their material, but there is no way that they were better than Nirvana. Just absolutely no way. I will still watch SNL tonight for their performance. I hope their new record will be better than Riot Act. Man was that record dissapointing.

krastian 04.15.2006 09:40 PM

I mean.....yeah exactly, they were part of the "grunge" phenomena....they aren't going to stop making records even though most of the other so called "grunge" bands are dead. You know, I don't even think they've sounded really that "grunge" since like Vitalogy. Their newer stuff has sounded relatively slower and "sad and drifty" if that makes any sense (I love it!). I agree Nirvana were better than PJ....both have always been really special to me even though I rarely listen to Nirvana anymore. I'm sure that would be different if they were still making records:D

Alex's Trip 04.15.2006 09:46 PM

Cool. My tivo records all the SNL's even though they really aren't that funny anymore.

krastian 04.15.2006 09:49 PM

I know....it's pretty piss poor. Christ, there is usually only one Horatio Sanz sketch (if that) on the show each week and he is the funniest! God the writing is horrible....they should seriously get ahold of me:D. I usually tune in if I can to watch the Weekend Update because Amy Poehler and Tina Fey are the shit.

Werd. They are awsome.

TheDom 04.15.2006 10:43 PM

I know, SNL is not very good.

I just laughed pretty hard at this line though:

"Easter Bunny, you need to stop getting wasted and getting in fights with the Tooth Fairy"

"That Tooth Fairy is a ho! Ya hear that? Look who's in the spotlight now bitch!"

I don't know why I found that funny.. I just did...

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 10:49 PM

The early SNL's were the shit. Do you know who the 1st SNL host was?

TheDom 04.15.2006 10:52 PM

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_Saturday_Night_Live_hosts_and_musical_gues ts#Season_1

George Carlin

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 10:54 PM

& you probably already know that the 1st musical guest was James Taylor.

TheDom 04.15.2006 11:01 PM

They had some sweet musical guests in the past.

Sun Ra, Fear, CAPTAIN BEEFHEART, Frank Zappa, The Dead...

even William S. Burroughs was on.

Пятхъдесят Шест 04.15.2006 11:06 PM

They've had some terrible musical guests too..

Fucking Sun Ra on SNL?! NO WAY?!

marleypumpkin 04.15.2006 11:06 PM

I know they had Peter Tosh on one time. Although it was f/ the rolling stones, it was pretty good.

Krastian: Have you seen this performance before?

I couldn't believe it either. That site I posted has them all.

Sun Ra

Ornette Coleman was on too

Пятхъдесят Шест 04.15.2006 11:11 PM

Sonic Youth have never played SNL?

Dan 04.15.2006 11:12 PM

Sun Ra was the only one of those I didn't know about or haven't seen. That's sweet.

The Talking Heads performance was so awesome. They just played in one of the normal sets I think-- it looked like a police interrogation room. I don't think David Byrne blinked the whole time during Artists Only.

Yeah I saw a clip of it on some Tosh/reggae doc or something that my friend has. I think I have an mp3 of it too somewhere.

Alex's Trip 04.16.2006 12:37 AM

Did anyone think that this episode was actually funny? There was some dumb bits, but some really great parts too.
