Freddie Gibbs teased his second collab with Madlib

Also Timbaland (who previously said that if Kanye wanted to make a sequel to Yeezus he would be down to help and take its sound to another level) was recently in the studio with Kanye.

Severian 01.03.2019 01:10 PM

There NEEDS to be a new Kendrick album and there NEEDS to be a new Frank Ocean album and I want NO Drake albums.

If Kanye doesn’t shut the fuck up and stop being a complete shitbag fuckstain, I’m only going to dread forthcoming Kanye albums.

I can’t even listen to TCD/LR/Grad/808s/MBDTF/Yeezus/WTT/CS/TLOP without thinking, “Trump all day.”

Goddamn him for that. God fucking damn him.

Severian 01.04.2019 08:20 AM

I also want a new Childish Gambino album, please.

Severian 01.04.2019 09:21 AM

Possible new Kanye made Pitchfork’s “33 albums we’re most most excited for in 2019” lost. Just barely. And with a caveat.

And I basically feel the same way.
In fact, I used the word “dread” in this very thread... and that rhymes.

Fuck me.

Severian 01.06.2019 08:01 PM

I am loving how vibrant this thread is.

Kanye just performed “I Wonder” and “Father Stretch my Hands” on Kim’s Instagram.

Also I like the Playboi Carti album from 2018, “Die Lit.” It’s good.

The Jay Rock album is really fucking bloody good too.

Future’s gonna drop a new album that nobody will listen to all the way through except for Rob Instigator.

I hope Vince Staples drops a proper LP this year as well. FM! was good, but I would like more.

Been on some weird nostalgia trip.. first it was Wu, then Mobb Deep, Sonic Youth.. and in the last couple weeks, just Nas and R. Kelly everyday. Pray I don't get trapped the same way NR did with 90's alt rock.

louder 01.10.2019 05:55 AM

Oh yeah, I also checked out Maxo Kream's album from last year cuz my friend wanted me to write about it for his publication..

He's from Houston and does that Scarface/Geto Boys storytelling type thing over modern/trendy trap prod. When he doesn't tell a story he talks that H Town drug talk that ROB adores.

I wouldn’t be too open about that R. Kelly stuff just now.

I mean, make no mistake, “To the World” is still in my frequent-spin bin, but that dude is seriously fucked up and he’s even more of a pariah than Kanye right now. With good reason. Much as I want to kick Kanye’s ass for being a stupid fucking fuck with no apparent respect for America or his fan base, Kanye’s only guilty of *saying* dumbass, inexcusable things ... Kelly has *done* — repeatedly — things so vile they make Trump-worship seem downright quaint.

Severian 01.10.2019 07:43 AM

Oh, hey, did you hear DRAKE is a chi-mo?

I mean, we all knew he had repeatedly broken the “half-your-age-plus-7” rule (which seems like it should only apply up to a certain age. If a 50- and 30-year-old want to get it on, seems fine to me) but now there’s this video of him grabbing a 17-year-old’s breasts and shit.

Don’t know why it took 9 years for this 2010 video to come out... or for someone from that 2010 concert to say something... but SLIMEY.

Severian 01.10.2019 07:47 AM

Also, I forgot that I really want to hear new albums by DANNY BROWN, Isiah Rashad, and Playboy Carti this year.

Don’t @ me about Carti. Something about his vibe is really interesting to me, and he seems willing to play with sounds and moods that make him far more appealing than the average triplet-rapper.

That song “R.I.P.” thumps.

But I guess my most anticipated/hoped for hip-hop albums for 2019 are:
1. KENDRICK!!!
2. FRANK!!!
3. Danny!!

What kind of world are we living in when the greatest rap star can't fuck who he wants, when he wants?

GETO BOYS 4 LIFE

Paranoid, sittin in a deep sweat
Thinkin I gotta fuck somebody before the week ends
The sight of blood exites me, shoot you in the head
Sit down, and watch you bleed to death
I hear the sound of your last breath
Shouldn't have been around, I went all the way left
You was in the right place with me at the wrong time
I'm a psychopath, in a minute lose my fuckin mind
Calm down, back to reality
Don't fear death, cause I know that it's promised to me
Flashes, I get flashes of Jason
Gimme a knife, a million lives I'm wastin
The shadow of death follows me, I don't give a fuck
Pussy play Superman, your ass'll get boxed up
Put him in a straight jacket, the man's sick
This is what goes on in the mind of a lunatic

Rob Instigator 01.10.2019 11:08 AM

he has been "grooming" the young girl from Stranger Things, sending her texts "warning" her about boys, etc. Typical pedo grooming bullshit.

Rob Instigator 01.10.2019 11:12 AM

Future's got local ho's
but he shows them out the country tho....

Hence why I said that I pray I don't get trapped.. y'know.. in the closet and stuff? Okay, bad joke.

But yeah, dude is a monster. Which is unfortunate because I really like a lot of his music. :( Noone of his albums is as good as fucking Voodoo by D'Angelo, but his voice.. nevermind, inappropriate. I'll shut up about R. Kelly now.

Still haven't really checked for Carti. I've developed a fear for that kind of rap. In my mind it's just "avoid avoid avoid avoid". I'm probably missing out on some great beats.

Listening right now.. Carti's "rap" is basically just a bunch of semi coherent adlibs so it's easy to tune him out and enjoy the great beats. Not my favorite thing in the world but it's cool.

Gets old after a few tracks, but I like it.

Travis Scott has given me a new appreciation for the adlib-inflected triplet rap.

I fucking LOVE “Astroworld” now. Goddamn LOVE it. Even if SO much of it is still gilked from other artists’ sounds, he makes it work. It’s almost like an equation in some cases.

Like ...
([Any early OutKast song) + “Runaway” outro] = “COFFEE BEAN.”

Rob Instigator 01.11.2019 10:22 AM

Astroworld is the shit.

The 2xLP is sold out like a mafk, and I am so glad I got the last copy a month or so back at my local record store.

It is priced supa high on the interwebs right now. It sounds GREAT on vinyl.

Ah fuck you, I’m jealous.

I ordered the CD because I was tired of using data to stream the thing, which I was doing EVERY FUCKING DAY once the album “clicked” as a whole for me.

The first, like, seven songs are just STRAIGHT killer, no-filler (I don’t *love* “WAKE UP,” but it’s good... just a personal preference thing.

And then there’s that song... damn, I forget the name... that ends with the industrial groove and the “oooooooooooooOOOOOOOOOOOoooo” shit. Is that “5% TINT”?

But yeah, truly a great rap record. You’ll hate me for this, but it’s the closest the trap- and trap-adjacent world has come to an MBDTF or “good kid, mAAd city” kind of album. Just pure goddamn beautifully curated album that presents the best of what’s possible in the subgenre.

I like it when we agree on stuff. :)

Rob Instigator 01.11.2019 02:13 PM

The beauty is that Travis took 2 years to perfect the full album. It is not a throwaway mixtape type of release.

It’s way better than Birds in the Trap, and — honestly — even better than Rodeo. Like, way better. Birds in the Trap was a regression, I think.

Rob Instigator 01.11.2019 04:23 PM

Birds in TRap was boring.

RIGHT?!

I really liked Rodeo and the Days Before Rodeo mixtape, but Birds was a letdown. So was the album with Quavo. But if a few proverbial cats had to be skinned in order to give us ASTROWORLD, then it was worth it.

Honestly it was one of my favorite albums of 2018 in any genre.

louder 01.11.2019 05:24 PM

Yeah, Birds wasn't good.

“This is America” won Grammies for Song of the Year, Record of the Year, Best Rap/Sung Performance and Best Music Video.

I have mixed feelings about this.

It was clearly the best song nominated in every category, and one of the best — if not THE best — song of the year. But I did not anticipate it winning one, much less TWO. of the “Big Four” categories.

It’s just and it’s right, but the Grammys usually fuck shit up so bad that I worry this is a sign that I’m turning into an old fuck.

Oh well.

Fucking Cardi B won best rap album over “DAYTONA” *and* “Astroworld.” Which is ridiculous nonsense. Sure, Cardi’s album was better than Nicki’s, but t’weren’t no best of anything.

Pharrell winning Producer of the Year = L O L. Derp.

Just another Sunday Service as far as I can tell. He’s been doing these for weeks and week.

Severian 02.25.2019 10:43 AM

Louder,
Here’s more video from this week’s Sunday Service:

https://m.youtube.com/watch?feature=...&v=iE3KN8qtdtQ

It’s a “Father Stretch my Hands pt. 1” rendition though. Nothing new.

It’s amazing to me how well TLOP has held up. And it’s become a fan favorite, big time. I listened to it the other day, and I’m honestly a little surprised by how awesome it is, three years later.

I hadn’t heard it from start to finish in several months, and my gut was telling me that I’d probably retroactively have to call “Blonde” my 2016 album of the year, but nope. 1. TLOP; 2. “Blonde”
