Why Did The Killers Remake Shadowplay?

This is an amazing song by Joy Division, why did they go and do that?

Death & the Maiden 02.19.2008 02:14 AM

It was for the Control film wasn't it?

✌➬ 02.19.2008 02:16 AM

Yeah, it was, but come on.

pbradley 02.19.2008 02:29 AM

Sounds exactly like The Killers covering Shadowplay. Nothing more.

sarramkrop 02.19.2008 04:46 AM

Ask them.

the ikara cult 02.19.2008 06:16 AM

Its the worst thing in the history of everything, ever.
when it came on during the credits Control i almost hit the ceiling.

atsonicpark 02.19.2008 06:26 AM

I do find it funny that I always said that every Interpol song sounds like a shitty cover of Shadowplay, and then Killers (who belong in the same genre) go ahead and cover it...

PAULYBEE2656 02.19.2008 06:29 AM

they were commissioned to do it for the film control, which ive bought but yet to watch, you cant blame them for doing it. you can blame them for being a piss poor band tho! as for the interpol/killers comparison... interpol made one great album, the killers may have played one great chord!

atsonicpark 02.19.2008 06:36 AM

Agreed.

I don't know if turn on the bright lights is great, but I do really enjoy some of the songs on there. The generous guitar layering is friendly to my ears.

The Killers are just awful.

PAULYBEE2656 02.19.2008 06:45 AM

bright lights is not quite great, it aint no surfer rosa...
antics is good, half of it is good.
our love to admire is awful....

the killers are just todays answer to the alarm!

█████████ 02.19.2008 06:48 AM

didnt they made something with lou reed? i remember something like that, probably awful as well, though.

Stijn 02.19.2008 07:31 AM

yeah I think they recorded a track with Lou,
and When You Were Young is a fantastic song
the rest is kinda awful

No excuse, if they had any sense of their own inadequacy theydve said no. I dont get why they couldnt use the original in the film, they used Atmosphere not to mention all the performances.
I dont want to spoil the film for you though (He Kills Himself)

nicfit 02.19.2008 07:47 AM

aaaaah fuck! it took me ages to notice that you're talking about the killers and not the kills!!!

gmku 02.19.2008 08:27 AM

Probably because they wanted to make money for whomever receives royalties from Joy Division's songs these days. I'm sure it was entirely a selfless act.

"all these things i have done" or whatever is great..

Everyneurotic 02.19.2008 11:03 AM

what a pathetic excuse for a song, that one they did with lou reed.

Trasher02 02.19.2008 02:43 PM

Horrible song indeed, especially the "Oooh oooh ooh" part. It's amazing how one band can fuck up a masterpiece so badly!

About the Interpol stuff, Turn on the bright lighs is a great album. Good lyrics, great song structures, just plain great! Antics is complete bollocks and Our love to admire has some good tracks on it but overall a very dull album.

Rob Instigator 02.19.2008 02:53 PM

anyone have a link to where I may hear the killers do this unmentionable thing?
