Finally got the vinyl! As the other solos I think this isnīt also as great as SY-records, but already in the second listening I started to love it! I really like the "Fuck you all"-attidude in album (itīs same kind like Cave had with Grinderman). I think thereīs nothing artificial like Thurston trying to be younger he is, heīs just angry old man. And this album really proves me Thurston just do what he wants. When Lee is using nostalgia but sounding himself of the year 2012 in Between the Times, this album really sounds as if it would have been made in the nineties (the name could have been Psychic Hearts vol.2). And itīs kind of weird and amazing! It seems Thurston made a circle, itīs interesting whatīs heīs going to do next in his solo career.

Although I donīt believe Lee has thought any commercial things when doing Between-album, there really is a lot more commercial potential in Leeīs solo as this Chelsea album. I donīt believe anybody superficial listener starts to listen Thurston if hearing this. My favourites at the moment are Lip, Sleeping where I fall and Mohawk (the greatest moment of the album, I think itīs first time when Velvet Underground and SY truly meets). Also I really like the 7", the most beautiful song of the album in the a-side & the punkiest in B-side. And in my version there is also CD. I think this album will grow more after more listening, I listened Leeīs Between maybe little over 10 times but I havenīt got any need to listen it a long time. Well, I think I will listen it also someday.

Very hard to say is this better than Demolished, because I still love it also, but I think thereīs is no need to say which is better because these are so different albums.

I donīt really wonder why there arenīt lots of great reviews, because Chelsea is so out of this time. The music journalists of today seem to have trend that if the old artists do album they want and not trying to put there influences from the current music, heīs just an old fart (maybe critics are afraid the colleagues say them old farts if they like such an album). I think for example Caleīs latest album would have been better, if he hadnīt tried to put there so much "fresh influences". Of course itīs not totally bad.

Exactly, it is a bit like Thurston's Grinderman, relatively speaking

1. Yeah, they are. Unfortunately. I'm pretty sure you're in denial.

2. Not better than RR or The Eternal.

spenno 03.24.2013 03:15 PM

I didn't like the album at all.

But, then again, I've never liked any of Thurston's solo material, so I guess that's no great surprise.

(Love Lee's record, for what it's worth.)

1. You call it being in denial, but I am a hopeless optimist in general. But same thing I guess.

2. In my opinion, the only good songs are Reena, Incinerate (overrated but still a good song), Do You Believe In Rapture (kind of), Jams Run Free, Turquoise Boy and Pink Steam. They rest either just okay or awful. And personally I have a lot of mixed feelings about The Eternal.

We all have mixed feelings about the Eternal, friend. But RR is a solid album, even if it took several listens for me to see/hear it as such. I don't believe there is a bad track to be found on the album, but that's just me.

Maybe I should give Rather Ripped some more listens before I say my opinion, as it is one of the few SY albums that I listen to more sparsely than others. But my main problem with RR is the lack of Jim. Who is to say that the album would have turned out better if he had played on/worked on it, we will never know. But comparing Sonic Nurse to RR the difference in the overall quality of the album is like night and day.

Not all. I love both RR & Eternal as much as the other SY-albums and I donīt think Iīm the only one here. I donīt think the Eternal has greatest production of SY-albums but the sounds are ok, if they never gonna make other album with the same sounds.

woofwoof 03.25.2013 11:23 AM

I enjoy this record but it does seem very SY B-sidey. That's fine by me, and in some ways I expect that when it's only 1 member of the 4 we love contributing to most of the creativity and tone. I think those 3/5 reviews are about right..it's good but certainly not astounding. Lip is killer, though.

And for the record, I think The Eternal is an awesome awesome album.

vomir 03.25.2013 01:50 PM

the record is quite ok
track mixing it with Lee album and it gives fresh air and a nice pair

Genteel Death 03.25.2013 04:44 PM

No fresh air on this record for sure. It's suffocatingly boring.

Rob Instigator 03.25.2013 04:47 PM

have yet to hear it. I am still wearing black armband (metaphorically)

RanaldoNecro 03.25.2013 06:35 PM
