Suburbicon was a big waste of my time. I didn’t know a thing about it, saw the Coen Brothers name and figured it would at least be interesting......and some lousy acting!

ugh I'm dying to see this. I can't wait.

Me - I watched the new Ghost In The Shell, which wasn't earth-shattering but was perfectly enjoyable.

I hear it’s good but very unlike the book, which disappoints me. It’s not playing in my podunk little theater, so ima wait it out I guess.

what about timecop? timecop gets mentioned a lot.

btw have you seen the show? (jean-claude van johnson) it’s fucking hilarious. endlessly self-mocking/self-deprecating. it’s an amazon original.

Busy talking Ms Ild into seeing Annialation, a little pissed that they apparently deleted or changed the linguist and surveyor to other trades (esp as a surveyor!)

I hear they actually changed a LOT. Now I’m nervous.

Maybe, but that was later. I’d say his big three are Kickboxer, Bloodsport and Lionheart. All total shit films of course. I recently spent a morning googling fight scenes from some of those movies, and it’s just the same plot over and over, and the acting and editing are unforgivable.

No, never seen the Amazon show but maybe I’ll watch. Just polished off the second part of The Tick, which is ridiculous and funny and occasionally super dark in surprising ways.

“minimalism”

not a great film as “film art,” not a groundbreaker in the documentary genre, and nothing new to me personally, but definitely an important subject matter, and probably a great introduction for the general public about several current trends in anticonsumerism, especially post-great-recession (and another one is already around the corner, so, don’t overextend)

if you’re too tired and overwhelmed, if you struggle with finances, if you’re looking for the meaning of life or whatever, this isn’t gonna necessarily convince you of anything, but it might show a bunch of different approaches to a problem you might be trying to solve (money, housing, environment, travel, kids, closets, health, organization, sanity, whatever) and get you thinking. features a bunch of internet-famous specialist “guests” on these topics, plus a sociologist (juliet schor) and a neuroscientist, so there is something for everybody.

anyway, it streams on netflix if you got it. otherwise i’m sure i’ts findeable somewhere for a reasonable fee.

Saw this on a quiet Sunday with the wife. It was indeed super jokey, but it was fun, and I enjoyed most of it.

also watched this, which I did not know if I would enjoy. I liked it a lot. Not as deep or complex as the book of course, and it glosses over a lot of the character development that lets you actually CARE for these misfit kids, but all in all it was cool. the clown was not scary.

noisereductions 02.27.2018 10:50 PM

I found it to be like watching It Cliff's Notes.

!@#$%! 02.28.2018 08:45 AM

why nobody wants to talk about minimalism. dammit. we’re doomed as a species ha ha ha ha

Rob Instigator 02.28.2018 08:51 AM

the trend of "minimalism" seems to me to be people trying to live like the poor but without any of the crippling anxiety about where your next meal or rent check or medical bill payment will come from.
