No Wave Essay

Hi there
I’m currently writing an essay on the emergence of No Wave for my degree and I was wondering if anyone had any useful titbits of information. Things such as some good online articles, interviews and book recommendations would all be fantastic.
Presently my tomb of choice is "No Wave" by Mark Masters in which he alludes to other books that have been written on the subject yet doesn’t name names.
One thing I'm hankering after greatly is a transcript or recording of Weasel Walter's [of the Flying Luttenbachers] lecture on No Wave if such a thing exists.
Lastly but very importantly I shall be forever in debt to someone who could help me get hold of some recordings other than No New York as many either haven’t been reissued or are pocket money unfriendly but may be floating around online somewhere...?

Cheers
Joss

dude, good luck with that, theres been so many documents on no wave its gonna be hard to say anything that hasnt been said before. masters book and thurstons upcoming book are pretty much combined everything you need to know.

but yeah, weasel does do lectures on no wave and often will put his amazing no wave record collection on display.

saying things that havent been said before isnt too much of an issue on this one... its more a matter of getting something interesting into it and backing up my arguments with references... yar i was aware of thurstins book its a pity its not out yet

Just make sure and mention scissor shock.

leakyheadboy 04.12.2008 07:43 AM

yer i have a copy of confusion is next... i dont know the other one so ill look out for that... thanks for the review of no wave, it further backs up my hunch that its definetly the best thing around... a kinda no wave text book... does anyone know of any interviews on you tube that would be usefull?... when you search no wave the thing is just saturated by fall out boy who aparrently seem to have a song with those two words in the title... just to annoy

Hey there I'm not sure if yall will remember this but the reason i joined up here in the first place was to try and get some tit bits for an essay on No Wave that i was writing.... Its done now and although Im not massively pleased with it because i had to rush it and things got confused (and thus became over symplified) i got a 2:1 for it so thanks for the help... you can read it here ( http://www.mediafire.com/?283m9jxkyq9 ) if you like...

Hey leakyheadboy, i just chanced on this thread as i too am doing an essay on the emergance/significance of the no-wave scene.
I have a fair amount of knowledge on the scene, but i need info on the more factual side of things like dates/times/names and stuff like that; and id also just like to see how you've laid the essay out - 'cos im getting pretty short on time!
I tried following the link to your essay but as its so old it no longer works, so if you're still using this forum id be really grateful if you could put a new link up, or even email me, as i need as much help as i can get!!

Thanks, Jay

cool, make sure and listen the new breed of bands referencing no wave, like erase errata, scissor shock, bride of no no, etc.

Is this for, like, an undergrad composition class or is it really “for your degree,” like a graduate thesis?

I thought No Wave essay should be about the No Wave feminism lol. Has anyone read "No Wave: Post-Punk"? Or No Wave by Marc Masters perhaps? Curious about the whole discussion about it.
