PAULYBEE2656 12.11.2006 06:01 AM

yeah, daydream is beginningto appear in the sets due to the upcoming dn rerelease and the atp dont look back gigs in the summer.........

cmon, do it in ireland guys!

i heard hair police , double leopards, bardo pond and magik markers were insanely brilliant

Palmer Eldritch 12.11.2006 06:32 AM

The weekend was amazing. thurston's improv set with magik markers drummer was unbelievable. both sonic youth sets were very different (i snuck into both). They started the first set with teenage riot and finished the second set with it. great version of 100% on the secoind set. more info when i wake up. peter broetzmann was mind-blowing, dinosaur were the loudest thing i've ever heard. xxx

h8kurdt 12.11.2006 09:18 AM

Fucking brilliant is all I can say. Met Lee and he ended up taking a pic of me SY tat for the website, lovely bloke he his. Saw Thurston and Kim but didn't wanna bother them. My friends ended up seeing me naked more than they should of. Had a sexual frustration that was sky high (and I mean sky high)

Set list for Friday in no order

Teenage riot
PCH
Schizophrenia
Erics Trip
Catholic Block
Shaking hell
Incinerate
Reena
Do you believe in rapture
What a waste

There was one more but I didn't regonise it.

I thought I saw Cantankerous at ATP and managed to get some balls and ask her but alas it wasn't so I walked away feeling like a dork.

sonicl 12.11.2006 09:47 AM

fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck

That was rather good.

SY weren't at their best for their Friday show, which was a bit short and lacklustre, but I understand that the Saturday show was better. The Bark Haze (Thurston + Gown) show on Sunday afternoon was stunning. I filmed all but the last three or four minutes on my camera from the front row, but you're going to have to be patient before you can see it, as it's the first time I've done this and I don't really know what to do next.

I spoke with all four band members at various times, and they were all wonderful people. Special mention has to go to Steve, who was happy to chat for ages on a fan-to-fan basis. I think I may love him.

As brilliant as the music was meeting loads of boardies, all of whom were lovely, with the exception of Glice, whose head was so far up his own arse that when he spoke I had to use a stethoscope to hear him.

I'm off to bed now, I'll post more later.

Prickery, absolute prickery. Just because you're too old to get NNCK you have to lash out at me.

Iain is a very beautiful person. I want his bum-babies.

Too old to get NNCK? Surely you mean old enough to know prententious bollocks when I see it.

The only good thing I can find to say about NNCK is that they were at least responsible for the weekend's only public showing of a pair of mammaries. But I couldn't even see them properly because I only had my reading glasses with me.

EDIT - Please note that the sexist element of this post exists only for the benefit of a decent petty argument with Mr Glice. I am not going to be fooled into saying that NNCK had any appeal to me just because of the presence of a topless lady.

Glice 12.11.2006 10:35 AM

Pervy old man. Did you leave your trenchcoat in the chalet?

Thomas Moronic 12.11.2006 10:37 AM

I had a great weekend. I saw the Saturday Sonic Youth show, which was great. The stuff from Rather Ripped sounds a lot better live - Pink Steam was especially fantastic. It's a shame there were no songs from Sonic Nurse. Other highlights for me, were: Wolf Eyes (incredible), The Melvins (relentless), Dead Machines, Dinosaur Jr, The Stooges, Hair Police, Prurient.

The last band I saw on Saturday night was Be Your Own Pet - they were completely shambolic, all over the place, but in a good way. Thurston appeared at the end of their set and helped them destroy the stage - a nice way to finish the festival.

sonicl 12.11.2006 10:38 AM

More importantly, here are pictures of me and two of my stalkers...

porkmarras 12.11.2006 10:41 AM

Woooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!

Excellent pics.

sonicl 12.11.2006 10:52 AM

There are two more, but I have to wait until MI5 have finished with them before I can post them.

porkmarras 12.11.2006 10:54 AM

Did anyone get to see Nurse With Wound and Ashtray Navigations?

Glice 12.11.2006 10:56 AM

I did. NWW were... disappointing, if I'm honest. Theirs is such a dark, brooding music, I felt that the bright lights of the venue detracted from it. The sound was awesome, but it felt wrong having them on so early in the day. If it was 4 in the morning and pitch-black, I think it would've been better. I had to nip off for Ashtray, so unfortunately I missed Tibet's rapping.

Ashtray were fucking incredible, and I kept bumping into them at bands, really nice chaps. They even looked really bashful when I drunkely told them they were the second best band in Britain (after the Fall, obviously).

sonicl 12.11.2006 11:07 AM

NWW, yes, and they were super (EDIT - please bear in mind that I have been a music fan for many more years than Glice, and consequently I know more than him about these things - I saw Dinosaur Jr in 1988, you know). Ashtray Navigations I missed, but by all accounts they were v good.

The others I saw on Friday were Richard Youngs (good), The Stooges (fucking kick-ass!), SY, and Dead C (Damn damn fine). friday also brought the weekend's biggest disappointment - not seeing Bardo Pond.

Saturday: Melvins (too much like Metallica), Deerhoof (I like!!!), New Blockaders / The Haters (lacked any tunes that can be whistled), Mats Gustaffson & EYE, followed by Corsano / Flaherty / C Spencer Yeh, followed by Brotzman / Bennink (all three blew me away), MV/EE (a bit directionless until Chris Corsano joined them) and Comets on Fire (not my kind of thing).

Sunday: Dino Jr (killer!!! - but not as good as in 1988), Bark Haze (A much better thingv to do on a Sunday than church could ever be), Notekillers (like a three piece Branca ensemble), MCIAA (one of the highpoints of my weekend), Alexander Tucker (not very attention-grabbing), Six Organs (like a folk Loop), NNCK (pretentious bollocks) and finally Sunburned Hand (a wonderful end to the weekend).

screamingskull 12.11.2006 11:18 AM

soooooooooo, who are all these people?, are they all members?

It was great...I don't believe Cantankerous was there...we would have seen her coming a mile off. Maybe she was hiding from us on purpose.

Sonicl is wrong! NNCK were one of the best things there. Sunburned were great. Other than them my highlights were Sun City Girls, Major Stars, Brotzmann/Bennink and Blood Stereo.

Glice 12.11.2006 11:24 AM

See? Iain knows, because he's young and firm. And very good looking.

screamingskull 12.11.2006 11:24 AM

she hasn't been posting on here, im surprised she didn't meet up with you all (if she went) it seemed a long way to travel though.

did toilet&bowels go? cos maybe she was hanging with him all weekend?

porkmarras 12.11.2006 11:36 AM

Yeah, was Toilet there too?I bet Tonomo gave Saturnine a mean samurai look and she hid behind a tree the whole weekend.

Glice 12.11.2006 11:39 AM

T&B was there, he wasn't with Cantankerous. He was looking quite fly as well, I was most impressed with his jacket. Still a miserable bastard mind you.

screamingskull 12.11.2006 11:39 AM

so nobody saw her? strange.

porkmarras 12.11.2006 11:42 AM

I feel a bit like Iain in that i somehow got the impression that Saturnine wasn't there.I dunno why.

Tokolosh 12.11.2006 11:44 AM

Nice pictures peoples! Looks like ya all had a great weekend. Jono's the man! Nefeli... mmmm. :p

Iain 12.11.2006 11:46 AM

Also, sorry I didn't say more than hello to some of you fellow board members...mainly sonicl, whorefrost, greenlight and moshe.

Toilet was attempting some pretty confused morris dancing at about 3am on sunday/monday.

Glice was drunk pretty much every time I saw him and kept stroking my hair.

There was an awful nightclub inside the main building which was like being in a nightclub in any uk city on a weekend but with slightly better music.

Iain 12.11.2006 11:47 AM

Oh, yes...the worst pictures are probably of me a) stuff Pringles into my craw and b) lying on the floor during the Skaters with a stupid expression on my face.

I took no pictures whatsoever.
