Recommend me some Don Caballero and some Volta Do Mar

For Don Cab I'd get either American Don or What Burns Never Returns.

Everyneurotic 04.10.2006 03:48 PM

wow, finally!!!

thanks man!

Definitely American Don.

I saw them with The Blackheart Procession a while back, and they did songs off that album that were fucking amazing. Amazing band to see live.

I say What Burns never Returns. Ha, coincidentally I was just listening to that album 20 minutes ago

Everyneurotic 05.03.2006 09:31 AM

thanks guys!

i've heard two songs from the new "don cab" album and they sound pretty cool.

so, has nobody heard of volta do mar?

Inhuman 05.03.2006 09:38 AM

Naw, I haven't heard of them. Are they similar to Don Caballero? The burnt don cab CD my brother gave me (what burns never returns) also has a weights and measures album on it, and they're very similar.

Everyneurotic 05.03.2006 09:43 AM

actually, i have a don cab boot from somewhere, but it has no song titles and sometimes live bootlegs don't really represent a bands output, so i wanted to hear some studio albums to listen for myself.

i read somewhere that volta do mar were a math/post rock band or something, and i guess they said that it was on the vein of don cab and battles; plus, i'm pretty sure i've seen the name drop in here.

It's all about What Burns. Don Cab 2 rocks out too. American Don gets too repetitive and too boring at times.

As khchris once stated, Storm & Stress > American Don.

As for Volta Do Mar, they only released an EP and a full-length. All can be found, including splits/unreleased material, on '03 > 98'... which came out last year. They have since disbanded, the guitarist however, has a new project out called 'Oso'. Along the vein of Volta Do Mar, but more folk sounding... ish.

Weights and Measures and Volta Do Mar are nothing alike. Both good material, nonetheless. Jeremy Gara, drummer for Weights and Measures, is now playing drums for the Arcade Fire... pity. Just like Volta Do Mar, they only released an EP and a full-length... all which can be found on 'Invest in the Death of Weights..." which includes all their material, plus some unreleased tracks.

If you enjoy that stuff, I would also recommend you listen to Piglet. Good shit, check it out.
