most people, most of the time, follow the law, for no reason other than it happens to be the law. We don’t run red lights even when nobody is around, we don’t piss in the elevator, we don’t maliciously defame our enemies, we don’t solicit prostitution, we don’t leave the restaurant without paying our bill, we don’t cosh random black people in London. We follow laws we don’t even agree with. We follow laws that cost us time, money, and effort. We live in a free country and yet we follow totally stupid and unenforceable laws all the time. Why? It’s a tenuous thing. We follow the law because we imagine other people are also following the law and we perceive it’s in our societal self-interest for them to do so. We follow the law because we want other people to follow the law, and we don’t want to be the ones to ruin it for everybody. |

Bad news for Manafort. SCOTUS 7-2 to allow States to prosecute for same crime as Feds, allowing a state and the federal government to each prosecute an individual for the same action if it violates both state and federal laws.
The SCOTUS has held the Constitution's double jeopardy clause allows states and the federal government to prosecute an individual for the same offense saying, "Where there are two sovereigns, there are two laws and two 'offences.'" Justices Ginsburg and Gorsuch dissented. takes care of the Trimppardon ® issue. |

"cake artist"
great article in FFRF newsletter about testing for anti gay bias. If religious objections to war (conscientious objector status) are examined by a group of experts to determine sincerity and adherence to doctrine. why are citers of Leviticus not examined by a similarly powerful panel to determine if they are true believers or merely cherry picking Leviticus for what supports their bias and prejudice (if there are in fact, any cherries whatsoever in that text)? Leviticus also calls for no shellfish, no mixed fiber, etc. So, are the "cake artists" questioned about ALL YOU CAN EAT SHRIMP NITE? And, if not, why not? https://www.freethoughttoday.com/vol...igious-beliefs |
