I almost bought that LP the other day. Only 7 bucks, too. Why didn't I? I think I was turned off by the listing of the Motorcycle Mama song. I remember not liking that.

Is it worth a 7-buck purchase?

Yes it is, the album contains some of his most beautiful acoustic ballads. Motorcycle mama is not representative of the rest of the album (fortunately).

I'll run down this week's playlist for everyone. I expect some commentary:

Patsy Cline - 12 Greatest Hits
Elvis Presley - The Sun Collection
Jon Spencer Blues Explosion - Acme
Johnny Thunders - Born Too Loose
The Pretty Things - Midnight to Six
Brian Eno - Another Green World (this one's really grown on me!)
Brian Eno - Before and After Science
Rolling Stones - Rolling Stones, Now!
Rolling Stones - It's Only Rock and Roll
Rolling Stones - Nasty Music (excellent bootleg 2xLP from 1973 (Brussels) & 1972 (MSG, NYC) )
Radiohead - The Bends
The Beatles - Magical Mystery Tour
Captain Beefheart - Shiny Beast
Velvet Underground - NYC 66 & 67 bootleg (Gymnasium & extras)
The Zombies - Time of the Zombies (2XLP compilation)
The Flamin' Groovies - Teenage Head
The Damned - Machine Gun Etiquette

I think tonight I'm going to play The Kinks - Something Else, and the Zombies thing again.

i brought my laptop to UNI on thursadaay and copied a pile of cds from the mjsic library. this is something that i shall be doing often now. its great that i never have to buy classical, avant garde and world music cds again.
so last week i copied
shostokivich-symphonies 2,4,5,9,10
and his 14th and 15th string quartets.
and a collection of indian ragas.
im now listening to shostokovich's 14th string quartet.
btw how is his opera "the nose"?

and what thing of john cage should i get? i have a cd of his prepared piano, but im not sure where to go from there

The Clash - The Clash (UK Version)

Florya 03.03.2008 05:19 AM

Another live cassette that I thought I'd lost - Cabaret Voltaire live at The Final Academy in 1982. First time I've listened to it for around 20 years. Not too bad considering I only had a hand held cassette recorder with a condenser mike. The tape's also got Bill Burroughs doing a reading at the same event.

Jeff Buckley - Stephen Talkhouse, Miami Beach, FL December 4th 1994

johnnywinternoshow 03.03.2008 05:32 PM

Nick Cave - Dig Lazarus Dig
Joan of Arc - Joan of Arc, Dick Cheney, Mark Twain

Florya 03.03.2008 06:05 PM

The Faith Healer - The Sensational Alex Harvey Band

I have visions of an embryonic Killing Joke playing this track when they first formed. They played it as intro music at all their recent gigs.

I love this Dire Straits album. I always have. I love how Knopfler sounds like Dylan only better, in his inflection. "Romeo and Juliet" chokes me up every time.

Caesars - 39 Minutes Of Bliss (In An Otherwise Meaningless World)
Caesars - Paper Tigers

They used to be my favourite band, until I discovered the Ramones, and these albums aren't that bad, I still like some of the songs.
