Bowie's Diamond Dogs, although later I'm going to listen to Americana in celebration of the 20th anniversary. (Sorry...)

that... may be. well not i have noticed any atrocities, but i dont listen to this one for the beat, actually. more for the textures and atmosphere, yeah. maybe that means bad drummer. but here the guitars are so gooooood.

I'm actually working through Bowie's discography atm.

Except for 'The Distance', I have NFI about Cake. But I probably should.

hahaha yeah, it’s pretty much all like that

it wasnt glorious or anything, but it was a little absurd and strange, especially for stuff that would come up on the radio, yeah, so it was fun/funny and why not.

I always felt like Cake was what Beck would sound like if Beck was a band and not just one guy. With all the eccentricities kind of ironed out democratically.

Not a fan. Not a fan of a lot of what Beck has been up to either, but back in the mid-‘90s he was on some next level shit.

He could conceivably come back and do something wild and inventive and continue on the path to being the heir apparent to Bowie.... but probably not because he’s like 55 and has been BM-ing out his last several albums.

But Cake. That’s a name I don’t hear a lot.

Do you have/have you heard the 2CD version from 2004? The lo-fi-ish live vocal-and-violin Forster take on "You're A Big Girl Now" that closes the second disc is fucking devastating.

ANIMALS is the only Pink Floyd album I need to listen to.

I hope you mean it's the only Waters-era Floyd you need to listen to, because if you don't think you need The Piper At The Gates Of Dawn, well...

_slavo_ 11.20.2018 04:04 AM

I'm listening to The Cure which currently plays on the radio.
In the morning I listened to Orchestra of Spheres new album ("Mirror") on my way to work.
The day is shitty, but the music makes it better.

Arteaga - Vol III Necromance

RELICS is a more pleasurable listen than PIPER imho.

---

I think I might prefer Megadeth to Metallica.

---

How many Thanksgiving songs are there? I can't think of a single one.

You prefer Megadeth to Metallica? Even with the horrible, laughable vocals? The vocals that are, like, so funny that they sound like a joke and you wonder if it’s sipposed to be funny? I mean, I know there’s some of that with Metallic too, but not to the Megadeth degree. It’s like a comedy routine.

Dave Mustane’s vocals are an affront to the very practice of singing. Or would be if it didn’t have comical significance.

Rob Instigator 11.20.2018 11:55 AM

I too prefer Megadeth over Metallica. Lars' drumming is weaksauce, and never gets any better, and Mustaine's solos are infinitely better than Hammet's

Both are good though.

Rob Instigator 11.20.2018 11:56 AM

2X LP awesome.

Oh, dude... no.

Fair enough that Mustane might be a better soloist than Hammett, but I don’t know that I can agree about the drumming (also I don’t play drums, so my opinion is only so valid). But it’s about what the band does as a whole. And even at their shittiest, Metallica hasn’t come close to the “I’M A SCARY STORYTELLING MUPPET!” bullshit Mustane laced the Megadethscography with.

He’s the Billy Corgan of Metal. Only even Corgan doesn’t sound so shit.

Rob Instigator 11.20.2018 12:41 PM

LOad. Reload.

Mustaine , from what I have read and heard from friends, is the nicest fucking guy to talk to at a show. The dickheads from Metallica? Not so much (except for Hammett. he is a cool dude)

Rust In Peace is front to back, probably the greatest Thrash Metal album ever.

Load and Reload both had some decent rock radio songs. Both are better than THIS

“Memory Remains” has a Marianne Faithtful feature. That’s pretty ballsy.

None of it is great, mind you, but it’s all better than Megaderp.

Also, it was a gamble. Not a lot of gambles in big-tent metal.

The intro to that song is pretty sweet.

The whole thing's ridiculous. All the death-fetishizing. The boring, adolescent "fuck the system" politics. A few other things that add up to something that can be easily parodied.

But both M's can sometimes rock. They are fun and make me laugh.

Shitty vocals--both james and Dave sort of suck, so the issue is which type of sucking you can tolerate the longest--are the least of my worries.

Dave Mustaine reminds me of at least one kid I went to high school with. I can't be the only one who had that experience.

Meh. I think Master of Puppets and Ride the Lightning and even AJFA have genuinely brilliant and engaging compositions that kick ass and are unoffensively sung.

Megadeth doesn’t have any songs like that.

Metallica > Megadeth

Had to look this one up on Discogs......was hoping to see a Too Fast For Love cover song. 110 songs is also a fun time!

Yeah it was their final release, and also probably their most developed - songwriting wise. If you dig AC's sensibilities... I can't recommend it enough
