I honestly don't get the love for bug, like obviously freak scene's tops, but it doesn't pick up again for me until like pond song. whole thing sounds a bit bereft of energy/vitality in a way that the first two records definitely weren't. songwriting maybe too clinical for the most part?

I just spent more time checking my email than it would take you to listen to the two new albums by the artis who brought up together. Low-key pissed is turning into upper-register HURT FEELINGS! |
But yeah, listen to albums you’ve had for 20 years. Sure.
|
Love you bro. Will listen to those when I'm in that head space and they have a better chance of resonating with me. It would bug you more if I heard em and said 'uh they're ok I guess not what I'm the mood for'... Better I hear em when I am in the mood
|
And I've had that for like 23 years so... Yeah. Sebadoh rules tho.
|
I'm with noise on this one. Those records aren't going anywhere. Why be compelled to listen right away? One might not be able to participate in the large discussion surrounding the records, but that's the only drawback.
That said, let's compare Lou B to Kanye W. Never mind. I can't... Laughing too hard to type. |
Just gimme indie rock!

Actually I’ll bet Lou respect’s Kanye’s aesthetic, even if he thinks the dude is a moron. And if Kanye knows who Lou is, that seems like the kind of artist he’d respect. Look at “FML” — Kanye samples Section 25 and makes a post-punk rap song. Seems like the kind of thing Lou would dig. As for the other part of your argument, it’s not like it’s wrong to not listen to albums when they come out, and if it was like The Weeknd I wouldn’t be badgering, but I just know Kanye is one of NR’s favorite artists and an artist whose music he and I bonded over (back when we were still friends, before last week ;) ) — but the exact same thing can be said for the old ass records he’s listening to. They’re not going anywhere. They also sound just like they did in 1995. There’s more reason to listen to new records than there is to listen to old, at least socially. But I don’t care or do I!!! |
I know you're like half-joking, but you shouldn't take my listening habits personally. I don't listen to music to be social man. It's no offense. Back when we bonded over Kanye, I wasn't listening to Kanye cuz I wanted something to talk about, it was because that was where my head was at. It's what I wanted to hear at the time. I have no control over that. If I was in a "all I want to hear is Kanye" mode at the time and someone wanted me to listen to a Sebadoh album at the time I'd have said "hey, Sebadoh is great... but not what I feel like listening to right now, thanks." So here we are.
Today I'm listening to Sonic Youth's Dirty Boots EP, which I've had for like 30 years. Fun fact: it was the first SY release I bought! It's not going anywhere. But it is what I feel like hearing today. |

Fun idea: if you listen to something new, you might realize you want to be hearing it. That’s how it’s worked for me. I hadn’t listened to Kanye in like a month (ok, that’s a lie, but close to it) and I felt that I was not in that headspace. Then new albums dropped, and I listened like a fan does, and boom, I was in that headspace. Have you even listened to Daytona yet? Sebadoh isn’t going g anywhere. The dirty boots ep you’ve had since you were ... wait... like 7 years old? That’s not going anywhere either. Just sayin. |
Typo... 20 years

Kinda thought so. Pretty sure we’re the same age ;) |

Hey, have you heard about/heard/seen anything about this new Flaming Lips compilation? I’ve seen the cover in passing but haven’t heard about it anywhere. Not sure if it’s a reissue or what. Claims to be a best of. Cover’s badass but makes me want collected WB years on CD even more. Lips not a “greatest hits” band. |
Yeah a greatest hits thing. Meh.

Dude, you’re just wearing sweatpants. Even Nas would be sweatpants. You’re somehow beyond that. You’re like, wearing boxers and a T-shirt to a job interview level not giving a fuck. |
Shrug. Sonic Youth - Live at the Continental Club today.

R.E.M. REVEAL
An album I listened to once maybe, then tossed aside. Not sure why I gave it another go. But it's really growing on me. Five or six really, really good songs. Wondrous production, clever chord changes and a few glorious melodies. One or two really boring songs, but it is an R.E.M. record, so that's expected. The more I listen, the more I like. Who's with me? No one? Fuck you guys. |
Germany requests you listen to
It's The End Of The World As We Know It (And I Feel Fine) I actually never listened to Reveal. Probably never will ;) I prefer listening to the older albums anyway, but I haven't heard them in a while either |

Done. Good band Stipe cares more about spitting out the words than keeping on the beat. Quote:
They are easy to get sick of. Even with their classic stuff, I listen to a few seconds, skip to the chorus, move on to the next song. Which is why I'm so pleased I sort of have a "new" R.E.M. record to listen to. UP isn't so good, Around the Sun super sucks and the last two are overrated. For years I THOUGHT Reveal sucked too. I was wrong. |
I always like Reveal quite a bit. I like Up to, but Reveal is way better. Also this is a coincidence because I came here to post that I am listening to Automatic For The People!
|
That's a good one. I'd lose "Ignoreland" but otherwise a super solid record. In my top 3 probably.
Have you heard the "r u talkin rem re: me?" podcast? If not, get on that. For reals. |
Yeah "Ignoreland" doesn't really fit.
I actually subscribed but haven't listened yet haha |

REM albums good enough to warrant a spot in my old guy hard copy music collection:
Murmer Life’s Rich Pageant Green Out of Time Monster (fuck you, it’s good, sometimes even *gasp* good as hell!) New Adventures in Hi-Fi ... ‘sit. (I think) |
Hey I think Monster is great.
... Built to Spill - Live |
Listened to Monster last night. I was stunned I liked 3/4 of it. I always remembered it sucking. "Let Me In" is especially good.
What I like about R.E.M. is I get sick of them and sell all their CDs, then a year or so later I can buy them all again for fifty cents each at the discount bin or library sale. |
