Is there John Cale fans?

I have been many years the Velvet Underground fanatic, I like also very much some Lou Reed solo albums (Transformer, Berlin), but somehow any John Cale solo albums never got into my way. Until I recently found in my hometown library "HoboSabiens" cd. It was even better than I expected. Very good combination of popular and art music! Is there someone who have listened his whole production?

i love me some cale. vintage violence is a pop masterpiece. paris 1919 has some very awesome songs like andalucia. the island years is almost all hit with very minimal miss. i love the song "mr. wilson" and im still waiting for a rapper to sample the beginning of his version of "heartbreak hotel". i can see doom or wu tang killin it.

Unfortunately for John Cale, he was overshadowed by fellow Welshman, Tom Jones.

its funny looking at that old thread, someone recommended me to get the island years, so thank you to whoever that was

It was me I think. If so, you're welcome, it's fucking amazing. If not, kudos to whoever did.

maybe someone could merge these threads...but

I read "Whats Welsh for Zen?" which was really good. I own the 'Close Watch' as well. I regret to say much of his 70s music is sort of dated now at least to me.

He has remained diligent about staying current and not being a novelty act.

i distinctly remember making a thread on here saying that Lou Reed was a charlatan and John Cale was the really talented one... probably a bit rash of me now im reminded of it.

But yeah, Fear is a mans best friend.

The Earl Of Slander 03.16.2010 09:39 PM

Indeed. He's second only to SY in my obsessions really. I've said why at great length in the other thread.

I really like his voice.

Vintage Violence and Paris 1919 are great.
